Re: A League
If you see a replay of the game, when Heart scored, you can see in the central frame, slightly RHS a bunch of whackers jumping up and down on the seats on purpose to break them.
The 'away' section are located in the LHS forward pocket of the LaTrobe end.Comment

Re: A League
Its a funny issue for me, seems to really get on the goat of people who don't go to games. Reports of flares in the paper generate wild discussions at lunch time. "See those flares at the soccer in the paper? *!*!*!*!in' wogs, should be banned," "dickheads wrecking it for everyone."
Banned or not they are an established part of fan culture in the game world wide. Which despite the moral outrage from some people locally includes Australia. It isn't a new phenomena, and despite the concern that they inherently are damaging to the code's prospects, the game gets stronger.
Not going to worry about it too much, where a round ball hits the back of a net, it is likely some overtly aggressive and passionate male between the age of 14 and 30 will rip a flare. Or want to. Or think about it. It is embedded in the imagination of a significant cultural element of the game.Time and Tide Waits For No ManComment

Re: A League
I'm curious, what did soccer fans do before Signal flares were invented?
They're a part of the game? Give me a break. They have as much place in the game as racial abuse, rioting and ripping out seats.
Simple fact is that in a crowd they're an unnecessary danger. You wnat an excuse to light a flare, drive a boat into the bay at midnight.Comment

Re: A League
That's good because we don't want to go back to the old NSL days when there used to be exactly this sought of trouble. South Melbourne v Preston in the VPL a few years ago had lots of trouble when they played."Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"Comment

Re: A League
Got an email today from Heart (I'm a member) saying that 4 people have been banned for 5 years for the flare offenses and they are still looking into the night. I find it unbelievable that people risk multiple years banned from the sport and a fine over a flare.
These are the same people that love to talk up the "passion is not a crime" movement which ti me only seems to get pulled out when they commit crimes. It's a shame because of the game I have been to (about 25) I have never once felt scared or intimidated and the crowd is almost always a lot of fun, but like most things it is the minority that tarnishes the majority.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment
