Re: A League
Good stuff mate. I'm too sure about the 3.15 kick off but the team is more than doing their bit to get the fans along.
The Imperial is the pub fans go to pre-game. It's great to get you into the mode for the game. It's right near Parliament which is a bit too far from AAMI Park imo though.Comment

3.15 Wednesday is a weird time for the game, but with it being school holidays they may be hoping to get a few kids their first taste of A-League.The curse is dead.Comment

Re: A League
3.15 is part of Football Festival or whatever the A-League is calling it. Every team playing on the same day, 5 games in a row.
Melbourne Heart are giving each member a free ticket to take someone so if you know a member, leach off them! Mine's taken!Comment

Re: A League
Highly doubtful. Most Melbourne sport fans don't just "change teams" because they've won a few games. I hope it works for them, as it's good for the comp.Comment

I think some people are jumping off mv to heart because they are winning and mv aren't.Comment

Re: A League
There is no geographic, religious or ethnic difference between either side. When one team is 7 years old and the other is 2 its not like they have built up a huge loyalty through generations of support.
I think some people are jumping off mv to heart because they are winning and mv aren't.
I think the fact that Melbourne fans didn't really have a choice when there was only Victory makes it easier to 'jump off'. It wasn't necessairly Victory a lot of fans were supporting but Melbourne football in general.
I know you go for both teams and have coped flack for it on BF but I like it. Football in Australia needs as much support as it can get and you're definitely doing your part! I could never be a fan of both but props to you.
BTW are a member of both/either or just go to games whenever you can?Comment

If you like the perception that you've jumped off cos' the other mob are winning a few games, then fair enough. Each to their own I GuessComment

Re: A League
One thing I find amusing is the delusion of many Victory fans who carry on as if they were established in 1880 out of utter football purity while Heart are a plastic franchise.Comment

There is a history not necassarily with these two teams but players and fans.Bring back the biffComment

Re: A League
I believe the Muscat factor still exists, you either love or hate the guy, the old Melb Knights v Sth Melb days , therefore some followed the Victory because they were the only side, now Hearts picked up a lot of supporters, old Sth Melb or just Muscat dislikers.

I became a Heart fan pretty much the moment they were created. I thought I would have Victory as my 2nd side but that hasn't really worked out! There were a few reasons why I became a Heart fan:
- I was living in Perth when Victory started and only watched the first couple of seasons on TV
- My love was not for Victory, it was for football in Melbourne. I started following Victory to support the game here. As a fan of the game well and truly first, I thought it was great for Melbourne to have a 2nd team and they needed support (Victory alreay have plenty of fans, established etc).
- I feel Victory were handed Melbourne. Victory fans passion is amazing but I don't think Victory have really earnt it and are complacent. The Heart are great with fans IMO, as are their players (celebrating for ages after games etc)
- Big club/underdogs etc: Going for Dogs it's no surprise I am into the small/underdog club. Victory are A-League's Collingwood IMO.
- Muscat/Merrick/Etihad Stadium/boring style IMO: These wouldn't be big factors if I actually had passion for Victory but I just didn't enjoy watching them. I cannot stand watching games at Etihad.
- Victory fans: No offence to any here, I know heaps of them are great and really admire the way they support the game but I just found their fans negative/angry/Green St Hooligan wanabes were obsessed about their particular fan group than the actual club.Comment

I went to 2 winning GFs, loved it but it's not the same as say the bulldogs winning it. More like the Vics winning the shield.
I was thinking of getting 5 game memberships for both but got neither. I'm a football(soccer) fan first. If mv or heart stood for only west melbourne I would go that way.
Agree on the many reasons why people are supporting heart.
My father has gone to them cos the muscat and style of play factors.Comment

Re: A League
AAMI Park is definitely far superior for rectangle pitch viewing. Seen a couple of Melbourne Rebels games and the views are spectacular.Comment
