Another pic of Timmy in this article with a Bulldog from the same photo-op, a chuffed looking Bont.

Usain Bolt to trial with the Central Coast Mariners with a potential contract that would see him playing the A-League next season. Stunt or great publicity for the league?

Would have been better off making an offer to Ronaldo before Juve nipped in and signed him.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Every major football code has done something similar in the past, even cricket with Joey Johns and the Big Bash.

If it's done the right way and he is judged on his trial form, nothing wrong with a bit of lateral thinking. It's not as though Bolt is completely foreign to football like Israel Folau was to Aussie Rules. But if the FFA rely on this alone to do their marketing and PR, it will be a short term sugar hit like Tim Cahill at Melb City. The FFA simply need to substantially up the ante on marketing and PR expenditure, which was non-existent last season. And they also need to increase the number of teams (by 4 if possible) and also introduce a 2nd division and promotion/relegation. The A-League needs to increase the talent pool (below via juniors/lower leagues and above via international) - can't have guys like Vidosic and Topor-Stanley on the merry-go-round playing at half a dozen A-League clubs.

All its going to be is a freak show, yeah the guy can run fast but thats it. I get its all about exposure, but i dont think this is the right exposure.

The FFA should have tried to bring an Iniesta, Torres etc to the league.

Yep, a not quite washed up super star. I get that it costs a bit but it's the only way they can up the ante (that's why they use a gambling term-because it's a gamble.

How would you feel about John Terry coming out and playing with Victory? I haven't heard anything it's just he's getting to the available stage and Victory seems the best fit for him.

It was reported last week that Sydney did try to get Torres but couldn't reach a financial deal and he opted to head to Japan instead. The FFA were supposedly going to chip in.

Yeah, the Japanese club offered more money. These are the leagues the FFA should be pinching these marquee players of but they need to spend.

                      I would love that but....

Terry is playing at Derby next season under Super Frank.

I get the feeling hes happy giving something back to the lower levels in England before returing to Chelsea in some capacity. Rather than chasing the dollar overseas.

A good signing for the A-League with Honda joining Victory. Still $1.4 million in the centralised marquee fund for another possible signing. Mathieu Flamini to Brisbane Road has been rumoured.

Victory have just signed their Berisha replacement - Swedish striker Ola Toivonen. Fresh from starting all 5 Sweden games at the World Cup and scoring against Germany.
