One would hope not, of course.

UEFA has their head in the sand though. Platini is making excuses about how hard it is to police, how banning people would be impossible (even though stadiums in England and Spain throw overt racists out regularly) etc.

Crowd trouble in soccer matches in Poland is a regular occurence at the best of times as there are organised hooligan 'firms' associated with each club, and there have also been gang stabbings before and after matches in the recent past. As recently as 2007, Polish clubs were banned from all European competition due to ridiculous violence, and Liega Warsaw is actually still banned! (Their ban was for 5 years.) However, these hooligans tend to organise their fights away from stadiums these days because of tighter security, but as recently as last year a couple of fans from rival gangs were killed.

One would think that with a major tournament like this, however, security has been stepped up massively, so hopefully that would be enough. I hope racism or violence will just be a nasty subtext, and nothing horrible actually happens. The main problem will be racist chanting during matches -- it's happens as a matter of course at club matches in Poland, and it will be interesting to see if this continues at this tournament.

The groups for Euro 2012 look interesting. Which one is the group of death you think?

Would you say that Russa beating Czech Republic was a surprise result.

Looking at the Czech line up I wouldn't. A shadow of their former selves.
The Russian team is always competitive at Euro.

I'll be there for almost two weeks from 29th of June - I don't recall Poland ever having a Polish language test for immigration (like Australia used to) nor restrict immigration based on race (like Australia used to), and I've been welcomed with open arms. Australia has a much worse record on race based discrimination.

I will be in Krakow for the finals which isn't hosting any matches but is the home base for the English fans, should still be ok (hopefully). Heading up to Gdynia afterwards, big music festival on just after the final (50,000). Should be plenty of atmosphere
Not condoning Australia's appalling race record for one moment.
Please tell me if it's an acceptable situation that black players are informing friends and relatives not to intend due to probable violence! Dutch players being racially taunted at training, a generalization it maybe but it's unacceptable to have a tournament where people feel unsafe and are threatened because of their color.

If it has got to that stage then there is a huge problem and racism has not at all been stamped out of football.

To stamp out racism in football you need to stamp it out of society in general in my opinion. Its just such a monumental task that I don't think I'll ever see acheived in my lifetime.

Surprised Spain played most of the game without a striker. Not like they don't have a few good ones on the bench.

Looked a lot better once Torres come on to the feild and unfortunately luck didn't go his way with the two chances he had. Enjoyable game though.

England were poor I thought in the game against France, but will be happy with a point after a dour, turgid 1-1 draw.
