Re: Following our exes...................
Former Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade was furious that the club allowed Callan Ward to leave for GWS back in 2011.
Ward, who was 21 at the time, made the move to the AFL’s newest club on a five-year deal worth up to $4 million (or as much as $800,000 a year).
He was out of contract with the Bulldogs, who had reportedly offered him $1.3 million for three years (around $433k per year), and were ultimately unable to keep him at the Whitten Oval.FFC: Established 1883

No, the first offer was way unders and the manger frustrated with the lack of a response from both Fantasia and Eade started testing the market. Had our revised offer come earlier then Ward would have signed.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Following our exes...................
Yeah it sucks, if it came down to us and GWS then he'd have probably ended up going with the one that offered more money but if we hadn't stuffed around to begin with then it probably wouldn't have even reached that stage.Comment

Re: Following our exes...................
It's a bit complicated and there were issues with Eades and Fantasia ability to work together. Their relationship had soured.
We initially made a low-ball offer which was rejected by Wards management and after a few weeks with no response from the club Ward let Eade know of the impasse. By the time we came back with a vastly superior and revised offer GWS had weighed in with their mega offer.
There seems to be a fair bit of post-decision blaming of Fantasia, and he probably deserves some of the blame, Eade probably does also, but it also seemed very much that the AFL had decided Ward was going to be at GWS and paid accordingly.
Harbrow cashed in financially also - and surely Eade had the signoff on Sherman - clubs dont generally take senior players without the senior coaches stamp of approval.
Both players missed out on being premiership players with usComment
