GWS are after a mature-age ruckman during the trade period, having shown interest in Magpie Jarrod Witts, Western Bulldog Will Minson, Geelong free agent Dawson Simpson and the Sydney Swans' No.2 ruckman Tom Derickx.

Dawson-Simpson has been in the system longer than Ayce Cordy and has played the same amount of games roughly. Eker material for sure.

I be having a chat to him. He's a versatile player who hasn't quite kicked on at Port, but at his size could add some depth and plug a few holes for us. I wonder what his market value is?

Agree. Probably worth a 2nd rounder.

I think there is a chance he could be acquired for a 3rd round pick but like Doc has suggested he's probably worth a 2nd round pick.
Given how few senior games he has played in the last 2 years I'd be trying to get him for a 3rd round pick.

If Smith was to land there how many players could Geelong rotate through the ruck?
Stanley, Clark, Simpson, Vardy and Blicavs not forgetting Hawkins and Walker occasionally get used.

I think of the guys you mentioned only Stanley and Vardy are really ruckmen, and both have serious doubts over their ability to see out a whole season - ditto Clark. Not to mention at least two of them (Walker and Simpson) will probably be gone by the time next season starts. Seeking out a genuine first ruck seems prudent by the Cats.

Of course, Zac Smith sucks, but the thinking is sound.

Port Adelaide's Hamish Hartlett has signed a new deal that will tie him to the Power until the end of the 2021 season.

I'm not against Andrew Moore, but if we acquire him or Aaron Young from Port and pay more than we get in compensation for Jarrad Grant leaving (which would be a separate transaction I realise) I would consider the 2 transfers to be a net fail.

Bennell is worth Freos pick 16 too. Picks 3, 10, 16, 19, 22. Smith maybe to leave too. They've got a make or break draft or currency to trade for virtually anyone.

Port looking top heavy in key forwards. Resigning both Schulz and Butcher whilst recruiting Ryder and Dixon on big deals in past 2 years. Westhoff also as a tall utility who often goes forward.
