Any risk an established player picks us??
Is Geelong going to be able to afford all that? Won't be surprised if at least 1 of those players end up elsewhere.

I don't believe we would be compensated if Grant was to leave. We have basically rated him in the bottom 5 or so on the list which isn't an accurate reflection on his performance this year.
Ruthless business but we would need to look at the actual performance of any addition, at Grants expense, to the way they performed for us on the field.

Compensation will primarily be decided by whatever contract is offered by the club that takes him though surely. Good chance we will get zip though. Just can't see the logic in letting him go for probably nothing and then using a trade pick on a Young or a Moore who offer similar or less (should that occur).

Is there any reason why they wouldn't be able to? Danger will be on huge money but the other 3 would be standard wages. They'll take a fair bit of cash off the books with the departures of Johnson, Rivers and Kelly so it shouldn't be an issue. I find that argument the same as an opposition supporter saying we can't afford player "A" because of Tom Boyd's contract.

It's not just about cap, it's also about doing deals for all, especially as Adelaide look like matching Geelongs bid and forcing them to trade. Besides Johnson and Kelly wouldn't have taken up much salary cap as veterans. Rivers vs Danger, Henderson, Clarke and Selwood is quite a gap. Boyd hasn't stretched us, but 3 other expensive recruits at the same time would have.

They may have been Vets but allows others to jump up to Vet status as well. Does Selwood qualify for that? They'll have the space under the cap, they wouldn't have just went all in as soon as the season finished, I've heard they been planning this since 2013. Only issue the have, as you mentioned finding a suitable trade if Adelaide match. Eagles plan on matching as well.

Re: Confirmed Trades, FS, FA, delistings etc for all AFL Clubs 2015

Just on the veterans list - I think some people get confused as to what the rules are as they changed a few years back.

Basically a player has to have completed 10 years with a club to be placed on the veterans list. Clubs are then able to pay a fixed amount per veteran – $118,380 in 2014 – outside the salary cap.

                    So this season Geelong had:
                    Jimmy Bartel
                    Corey Enright
                    Steve Johnson
                    James Kelly
                    Tom Lonergan
                    Andrew Mackie

So Johnson and Kelly drop off. Selwood has only completed 9 seasons by my reckoning so he is another season away from being eligible.

Big increase in listed veterans ahead of 2015 season

                      Any interest?

The manager of Carlton big man Levi Casboult has confirmed rival clubs have made enquiries about whether his client would be open to a move. The 25-year-old is contracted for another year and reluctant to leave the Blues but the club is believed to be open for a trade for the right deal.
"If Carlton's prepared to release Levi, that then opens the door for the player to say, well if you're prepared to let me go, clearly I'm not part of the future and maybe I should look at what that opportunity may represent," player agent Anthony McConville told SEN.

Seems like we have an interest in Suckling as an unrestricted FA. Worried about his lack of accountability but with the right people around him on field and the right system he could be a real asset.
