Such an interesting feeling, lets be honest, prior to 2016 we've been far less successful, yet I don't think at any point during that we ever really "turned on ourselves" Nor did we ever get "angry" and crank out the pitchforks, But it just seems like the bombers are special at it, then manage to find a way to calm the masses into believing it, then nothing actually really changes.
Its so unique in how its playing out, its strangely addictive in that I'm taking some form of enjoyment form it.
I actually legitimately laughed out loud on the train at Matthew Lloyd’s double take in the first part.
I texted a mate who barracks for Essendon about something wholly unrelated to footy, and before he sent his actual reply he messaged “please do not text me about Essendon I can’t take anymore”. I think next week they’re must watch to see if someone jumps the fence.

I know we had some dark periods but even with the systemic disadvantages that used to be inherent in the competition did we ever match the current Essendon record for days without winning a final? That has to be what really burns

Unfortunately they haven't caught us in that regard yet - we went 8765 days without a finals win from 16/09/1961 to 15/09/1985.

In our defence it was part time footy then and we were always broke.
They weren’t broke and would have been paying more.
Nowadays with everything evened up it’s all about good culture, development and professionalism . Which the bombers have none.
Just Money doesn’t do it now.
If you go 17/09/61 as the first day without a finals win to 11/9/92 the day prior to our first win in the 90s :
11317 days or 30 years, 11 months, 25 days with ONE finals win. The semi v North in 85 which I was at with red white and blue hair as a 9 year old!!
I was there too, a couple of years younger than you. My first ever final and the first game I can remember. At least I didn't have to live through 24 years of no finals wins like my old man!
The fact they're 4 years away from catching a poor club from the part time era of footy in the current day comp is pretty amazing.
C'mon AFL clubs lets get them over the line!
At least we are well short of the Swan's 1945-1996 drought. I'm not even sure Essendon are incompetent enough to give that one a nudge. Early days but Gold Coast are going the right way about it, can't win a final if you never make it.

They were horrible years. First final after 1961 wasn't till 1974, then we also had a final in 1976, followed by 1985. Some long droughts.
Those years were the cheating years which is built into the culture of Essendon, Carlton, Pies, Tigers, Hawks. The years the VFL gave us nothing and tried to merge/relocate us many times.
