    Re: Essendon

I love an EFC pile on as much as anyone, but this article is hyperbolic clickbait.

Starting with Scott, you don't get Norf of the mid-10s to a QF followed by two PFs if you're not half reasonable at the job. A bit like Beveridge last year I'd suggest the bullshit that's happening at an administrative and political level at EFC has hampered his ability to coach in clean air. I understand he's had an easy draw, but his list isn't great and the fact he's had his team around the mark for the majority of the season two years in a row should be looked at more positively. It's a tough competition.

Merrett needs help in the midfield. Putting shit on him given he was the presumptive AA captain a couple of months ago seems a bit much as well. He'd have been exhausted by the end of the year.

Speaking to an EFC supporting mate mate, some points to consider:

    - Durham was drafted as a 19 yr old winger mid season from Richmond?s vfl. To not give Essendon any credit for the player he is now is laughable.

    - Martin was picked up as a 20 year old who has been passed over by everyone out of the WAFL. What he just became a really good player out of nowhere?

    - Caldwell was drafted pick 11 by GWS so a clear talent but only played 11 games in 2 injury riddled years. To say he wasn?t developed by Essendon is a joke.

    - Draper was a rookie drafted from soccer with a year of ammo?s in him. He?s grossly overrated but to be a starting ruckman from that background requires some level of development.

    - Even Nate Caddy, who is clearly an elite talent and the clear future of Essendon, Scott has seemingly only played him under sufferance. This is flat out wrong. Scott loves him and would have played him round 1 had not got hurt in a scratch match that wiped him out of the preseason games. Scott is picking him over a B&f winning full forward on a shit load of cash and 3 more years on the deal.

Anyway, I feel pretty dirty after that.

Where does Essendon go from here? Serious question I've got no idea they just continue on a road to no where.

The logical way forward is giving The Package another two year deal.

Provided they can win a bidding war with Kangaroo Flat.

I've said this to mates who loved him but are now starting to turn.
You won't be a serious footy club until Jake gets some vfl time.

When he's fighting for his spot, then I think we worry.

Although not sure how long he's got left.

I've got a sinking feeling Macrae might be there next year, or norf.

As a former Kangaroo Flat player if he ever pulled on the green jumper I?ll spew up.

Whilst we are not renowned for having a high quota of MENSA members surely we?re not that dumb.

Plus we had an amazing hot meat pie selection at the canteen, we need to preserve stock levels.

I actually think he's the ideal rookie list/semi-coach guy to guide Bryan next year.
I really think Nick Bryan is a quality ruck and he should be their no 1 next year, with Draper providing a contest forward and playing the no 2 role.

And the season ends not with a bang but with a whimper, I'm still baffled as to how they looked good early on and we just shat the bed vs them.

The funniest thing is that halfway through the season they were being talked up as finally breaking their finals drought and being a threat to Sydney for the premiership. A lot has changed where Sydney spent a month looking mentally fragile and Essendon bombed out.
