Whack! Old mate better watch out for a Brad Scott hip and shoulder.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Yet here he is at Essendon, with no improvement evident after 24 months, and after being gifted the easiest fixtures across that time. This shouldn?t be a surprise given he was working at AFL House prior to this current coaching job.

        Love this bit

Brad Scott can’t coach, leadership is lacking, the midfield is too small, the defence is too bland, and the forward line doesn’t kick enough goals.

Fix those five things, and Essendon can think about losing finals again.

Menzies is another, God he is barely afl standard. Heppell as the sub makes a lot of sense.

Heppell should have played its a no brainer.
It?s old fashioned but I?d like to think as well it would have been the honourable, respectful thing to do. Heppell is the last of the Drug Saga players. He missed a season of footy in his prime years, endured that stigma and turmoil of that awful period. He never paid out on the ?leaders? who instigated the regime and never took accountability. He was there for all the failed finals and the sacrificial lamb on footy shows to stand up for the club last year when Luke Parker openly mocked them as soft. We?re living through times of limited loyalty and players casually walking away from their clubs. Yeah a farewell game in front of the fans in Melbourne would have been a decent thing to do, but then again this is Essendon.

            Re: Essendon

Not much to argue about there. He's never been a coach that you would rush out and want at your team.

Essendon are a classic, sacking Rutten who gets them to finals being knocked out by the eventual runners up, (doing better than the more fancied Port Adelaide mind you) and replacing him with an AFL administrator who had a middling coaching record at best.

            Keep it coming!

I was in agreement that while in the race for finals you can't give a farewell game to a player not in the best team if you're pretending to be a serious footy club... but the point about using him as a sub won me over.

That's a fair point. However he's been in their best team most of the year.

He was dropped after the rd 17 debacle against the Cats (but remember that was the umpires fault!). Then played rd 19 an rd 21.

I think when they beat the Pies without him in rd 18 this could have been the card stamping game. However he was back the next week so it's a little confusing and they proceeded to get beaten by the Demons. Dropped again for the game they lost late to the Crows. Then back for the Saints game that was the scarf throwing and team abusing game, and then dropped again for the GC loss (Mac Andrew shooooosh game).

Played 17 games and averaged over 20 disposals per game.

Dons fans do bag him A LOT, conversely all I've spoken to have been disgusted by the choice to leave him out for some other questionable inclusions. Especially considering their lack of leadership.

                  Re: Essendon

Not playing Heppell, who was apparently good enough for selection for the overwhelming majority of their games this season including up until as recently as two weeks prior (in a game they actually somehow won no less), smacked of a club trying to artificially Make a Statement. There’s not a chance in hell he couldn’t have been picked based on the players they actually went with.

Ever since they themselves got Line in the Sanded, no club loves a big, ultimately meaningless and never followed through with “statement” more than Essendon.

The Essendon edge truely is different to any other club, I think it was meant to be a positive thing but in reality it is a negative edge.

I think its the edge of a cliff, one in which they are the biggest bunch of Lemmings anyone has seen.

As for Heppell, do they honestly think in a game that counts for so much "with the season on the line" that he isn't a better player than the likes of: Hobbs, Gresham, Davies, Menzie, Bryan etc. of course he should have played his farewell game in Melbourne.

Gresham has been a big mistake.
