If he gets a deal of 800K a season then GC should get Adelaide's pick 5 and something else like their 2nd rounder.
On face value I think Adelaide is making a significant error. How do they explain to their other emerging players the difference between what Rankine is receiving and what they're offering them?
If Rankine was a 20 possession a game player then perhaps you could justify it but he's far from that at the moment.
In 3 seasons he has tantalized the footy public but not delivered on his potential although this year he's taken a step forward.

I think a 3 year deal of about 500K a season is closer to his real value at the moment.

Will Rankine's huge contract force out any useful Crows, aside from Rowe?

Neither player is the Pies Elliott.

I've always like Mcadam. But doubt they'd move him.

I don't think so from a salary cap perspective.

The Rankine spend is well and truly over the top. In 2017 Jack Billings was the same age as Rankine is now, here's how they compare (I thought it might be interesting to see how the two number three picks compared):

Can you imagine someone threw something close to $800K p.a. at Jack Billings?
              TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Should we be talking to WCE Rioli?

I'm sure we have our feelers out with all the player managers but we won't have a lot of spots available.
Lobb, Jones and maybe one more might be about our limit for bringing in experienced players. I think another defender might be more of a need.

It's worth noting (not sure if I missed it elsewhere on Woof) that Junior Rioli has changed his name for the next 12 months, in respect to his father W. Rioli Sr who passed away recently.

I would love for Junior to play for us.

I was wondering who Junior Rioli was. So he's the artist formally known as Willie Rioli? I'd like him up forward in our team feeding off the crumbs of Marra, Darcy, Bruce and Naughton.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Junior Murray was the 'keeper for the West Indies when they beat Australia 2-1 in the iconic 1992/3 test series. I can't think of any other sports people that were named Junior.

Yes - I am no expert and only learned about this because of Junior's situation, but it is cultural practice in indigenous communities that you do not use the name of a deceased person. Different communities have different preferred alternatives (obviously W Rioli belonging to a group who tend to go with Junior). Happy to be corrected or educated by somebody with a better understanding!

That's right. I remember him. I reckon you'd still have sore hands nowadays after keeping to Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop.

I don't think it was this series but the funniest story I've heard was
when Merv Hughes got 73 against the Windies (Adelaide in 89 I think). Don Bradman went into the Windies rooms after Australia's innings finished and was being introduced to the players by Viv Richards. When they got to Patrick Patterson they shook hands then Patterson stood up and towered over Bradman. He snarled and said "so you're Bradman huh? I tell you man if I'd have bowled at you I would have killed you man. I'd have knocked you down and then I would have got you out" Bradman smiled and nodded and said "I don't think so sonny. You couldn't get *!*!*!*!ing Merv Hughes out today so you wouldn't have stood a chance against me" then swung around and walked out of the room. It's the only time anyone heard the Don swear.
