Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022

I admit I'm still perplexed at Logue & Pearce being low-balled by Freo (heard this months ago, now being reported in the media).

        Pearce? For real?

I mean Logue could be good but Pearce is good.

Pearce is awesome. Great leader, tall and fast.

          Have him in a heartbeat.

Kicking might give us some grey hairs but I'll take it.

Surely they aren't low balling him.

I was listening to Sam Edmund today who said Logue's preference was to stay in the west but the offers so far were low.
There has to be something seriously wrong with the salary cap that they need to clear the decks of a few good players.

Happy to be corrected or educated by somebody with a better understanding!
You are correct. I spent nearly ten years teaching in remote WA Aboriginal communities. Every language group had a different name that they would use. Kumana was a Wongi name that was used to replace the names of deceased family or community members. Depending on their social standing would be how long the name could not be spoken. There would be countless occasions that I was corrected by students or community members for saying a name (or a word that sounded like that name) when it wasn’t allowed.

In Junior’s situation there would be a language name he would go by with family. But for Western Society, he is using Junior to make it easier for us (and media) to speak of him without speaking his relative’s name.

I don't get that either considering Freo went hard for Angus Brayshaw

                  From what I 'know':

They have some pretty clear guidelines on payments for players based on an internal grading system.

I'm suggesting that Brayshaw (and the ROLE that had him down for) is worth more to them than Logue and whatever role you consider he plays...In other words Freo have a very clear plan that involves giving money only to the 'difference makers' and the rest of them, well, they will be < AFL average wages.

As for Pearce. Awesome player. Constantly injured. I just couldn't imagine laying money down for a player with his history of getting hurt (and like, LONG TERM hurt).
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Have a look at Geelong and how they have turned Stengle from delisted to All Australian squad member due to the strength of their tall forwards.

Then consider we have Naughton, Bruce, JUH, Darcy and English that can play there, and we’re giving games to VDM, McNeil, West as crumbers

As the commentators pointed out on Sunday, Josh Bruce was roving one of the marking contests. Our forward 50 conversion to scores is poor because we’re not crumbing our forward line marking contests well

It makes it too easy for the opposition defenders when they know they just have to get a fist in, and not be worried about it going straight to Charlie Cameron or his ilk

That's really interesting, thanks for explaining. I knew that there was a problem with projecting the image of a dead person in indigenous cultures and that why they have warnings on TV shows of they are going to show a disceased person or will explain that they have the families' permission (as in the case of Archie Roach last week) but I had no idea about the name thing. Although now that you explain it then it makes a lot of sense.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

SEN think Geelong are trying an audacious bid to land both Hopper from GWS and Grundy from Collingwood.
I know they have a deserved reputation as draft dodgers but it they land those two it sets them up as contenders again.

Other clubs might start having a look at their top up approach.

Maybe if every other club was also given over $300m in pork-barrell govt funding to develop their own pissant home grounds, that might help luring and retaining players under the cap.

It's times like these we need transparency in TPPs. How can they continue to afford to top up? And if they get these 2 guys, who would be on a fair amount of coin, how do they fit them in? If it was transparent these questions would pop up.

                            Something seems off on this?

I think they have been traditionally very good at getting players in who are prepared to accept a bit less for the overall team success but landing these two would really strengthen them. Players are buying in to whatever they are selling.

Collingwood would be doing something similar with Grundy as they did with Treloar so they would get him at a reasonable value.
Hopper wouldn't probably be on big money.

True but Dangerfield is on big dollars, Cameron is on big dollars. They're always a big player in the FA market and don't seem to lose anyone either. Other teams are bursting at the seams trying to keep players while they absorb them.
