      Re: Tribunal / suspensions 2024

      Dogs trio cited by MRO

Western Bulldogs trio Sam Darcy, Rhylee West and Taylor Duryea have all been cited by the AFL Match Review Officer for separate incidents in the Round 12 victory over Collingwood.

Darcy was charged with rough conduct in the first quarter, resulting in a two-match ban after a careless conduct, high impact and high contact grading.

Taylor Duryea has been offered a financial sanction after striking Nick Daicos.

Rhylee West has been cited for rough conduct too in the second quarter, with a careless conduct, medium impact and high contact grading resulting in a one-match ban.

The Club has accepted the sanctions for Darcy and Duryea, but will challenge West's one-match suspension. The Western Bulldogs will challenge Rhylee West's suspension, and have accepted the sanctions for Sam Darcy and Taylor Duryea.

I am glad we are contesting the West one. The suspensions are getting to the point of ridiculous.

I imagine we will be trying to argue the medium impact down to low. Howe wasn't hurt so hopefully we have a case.

Both going for the ball, surely this is low impact. Not even reportable in my view.

              Is there clear footage ?
I have only seen one where you can’t actually see anything.
Howe held his head looking like he was playing for a free then got up and ran off not even a test.
The Darcy one was quite strange, Maynard held the front of his head and he was never hit there , to me he hit his back causing a jolt and his head didn’t even hit the ground. Yes it was worth 50 but he wasn’t actually hit in the head.

I had a feeling there must be a second angle of the West hit where his elbow clips Howe's jaw or something, but given we are challenging it...maybe not!

Hope he gets off...losing him, Harmes and VDM in one week is a big dent to the small forward stocks. Not to mention we get a financial hit to our soft cap if we lose the challenge!

What I saw on video was West tackle Maynard and fall into a trailing Howe as a consequence. Just bizarre that it was cited.

I realised the folly of my actions as soon as I posted.

                        I am self netsing.

I agree, two players going for the ball. Was hard to see though as it was a wide angle shot . The reverse for the goal line will be interesting.

Yeah, I know but at this stage there were grounds for appeal.

I thought the same- he definitely looks like he bounces off of Maynard first. I don't understand why the footage they continually showed was the blurry back view until they hit the deck and then they switched to the goal line view.

I would like to see the goal line view in its entirety and I am guessing that is the basis of the appeal. I bet it shows clearer that West runs into an upright Maynard first.

Adrian Andersons' check list for why West should get off

                                Adrian's lengthy list TM:

                                1. West's job is to apply pressure
                                2. Attempts to tackle first, bracing for contact is incidental
                                3. Ball bobbles unpredictably
                                4. Howe changes direction significantly
                                5. No remonstration from Sidebottom
                                6. Not much else West could reasonably do
