The no sense part is what we did in the deal.
You wouldn't have cared ? Please.

Re: Talking trades
Originally posted by ChopsSaints were looking for a backman, maybe younger one but they tried to get Hooker from Essendon to go to WCE.
Also he would have been a better option for Geelong to replace Scarlett for 2 seasons than Rivers.
Carlton maybe didn't have the $ but I'm sure they would improved them.
Fact is he was still quality and to a side thats close, valuable.
To me he isn't the player he was 3 seasons ago and he won't have the impact Hawthorn is expecting. The curse is dead.Comment

Re: Talking trades
I agree, I don't think Markovic is AFL standard. Hopefully he's just used as back up, but I'm sure if the coaching panel see it that way.Comment

Re: Talking trades
I thought WCE were pretty poor in the trade period. Pick 17 for Wellingham, two picks in the 40's for Cripps and not taking a decent offer from the saints for Brown. Plus they took Morton. The curse is dead.Comment

I agree he isn't the same player he was but still better than they have. If Hawthorn are expecting him to be influential then maybe we should have let them believe it.The curse is dead.Comment

Re: Talking trades
Overpaid on Wellingham.
But Brown was contracted for another year & didn't budge which made the saints up their offer to change their mind. West Coast would have got more then we did.Comment

Bmac has a man crush on Markovic. Press conferences around the time he was getting towled up by the Eagles forwards. Re: Talking trades
They offered a lot more than he was worth yet the WCE didn't cash in. You could also say the Eagles would have hung onto a disgruntled player. The curse is dead.Comment

Originally posted by ChopsWhat's that got to do with the Lake deal? Did we cheat the salary cap as well?
St.Kilda held out on the Brown trade and missed out altogether. Sydney and Adelaide both held out over Tippett and unforseen circumstances resulted in both parties losing out.
Whose to say Hawthorn shouldn't be criticised for folding on the Lake trade when we were very motivated to get rid of Lake - maybe we would have picked up Lake's salary and not held out for the Hawks' first round pick?
To say that we should have held out and we would have received a better deal from Hawthorn is nothing but speculation on your part. You have no evidence whatsoever to support your assertions. You also ignore that the clubs had been in talks for some time before the trade period officially began.Comment
