Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

I'm hoping they keep him for his full contract. It would mean no big pay out for him, crap results on field, hopefully a continuation of their crap recruitment policy, and he is beginning to be disliked by the fans that once adored him, imagine how they'll feel after another year of this.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Yeah they're going to get them. Watson to lose Brownlow and all of them will sue the club. I really hope Hird gets to coach next year.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

Last night on AFL360 Brendan Goddard threw his teddy bear out of the pram on behalf of the players. Of course he blamed the media for keeping the pressure on the players.

When will the playing group realise that it is solely their club, with their mismanagement, who put them in this position.

If the club had monitored the program correctly and kept records (that one would have expected in a program of that type), then the whole matter could have been correctly adjudicated in a matter of weeks. Innocence or otherwise would have been an easy call.

When will the players take responsibility for their situation?

They allowed themselves to be injected without documentation.
          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

Precisely. They had a duty of care to themselves and should have, with their managers and the players association, undertaken their own due diligence.

Re: ASADA issues show-cause notices to Essendon players

Do we actually know "Svengali Steve" kept no documents? Or maybe the documentation ended up in the incinerator? Whatever, the salient fact is that Steve of a Thousand Vials has received a life ban from involvement in any sport. On the basis of the key finding - to wit: the AFL could not be comfortably satisfied that Thymosin Beta4 was not administered - that seems incredibly harsh. A life ban for poor record keeping. But let's not be coy here. If it looks dodgy, if it smells dodgy, if it involves dodgy characters and if the m o of the operation is dodgy then it's probably dodgy. This has been an absolute disaster for the game. The AFL were asleep at the wheel on this one. Remember it was as long ago as 1996 that Adelaide were reported to be using creatine. That should have alerted the AFL that oversight of supplements programs had to be a priority.

I don't know how footy clubs account for the wages t hey pay but the story of Essendon employing Dank in The Straight Dope is appalling. They were paying him a hundred large and one of his duties was to process the data from the GPS equipment but for the first six months he didn't bother doing any of his actual duties and instead of sacking him they promoted him.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Believe it or not, football clubs are not the big businesses they like to pretend they are. Most have very poor internal financial controls, almost no functioning HR department and are dominated by narcissistic, borderline psychopathic individuals.

Yeah. It seems that somebody knows somebody who mentions what a good bloke he is so they sling him 100 grand a year with minimal supervision of duties.

If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

I'm on strike at the moment down at the woolworths liquor dc next to laverton market and I agree with the above comment.
PS don't worry about going to Woolworths, Dan Murphy or BWS if your a drinker because the stores are closing due to being empty

I've watch the Bomber Thompson interview on AFL360 a couple of times now; he still refuses to see that they did anything wrong. He said that he takes responsibility for the supplements at Geelong (not drugs), but the program was cutting edge ... showing the way for all the other clubs. He continued with the "taking responsibility" thread when pushed about Essendon. He takes part responsibility for involving Dank, but the AFL and ASADA is at fault for what the players were injected with not the management or players of Essendon.

FFS Bomber ... it is your fault. It is James Hird's fault. It is David Evans fault. It is Paul Little's fault. It is the 34's fault.

Man up ... stop being a douche !!

I find this latest propaganda from Essendon especially ridiculous. Effectively blaming the AFL for not protecting them from themselves, all the while arguing they did nothing wrong. If the people being targeted with the message weren't desperate to believe it they would laugh at how ludicrous it is.

Agreed Stache. There are a lot of grown up men acting like 5 year old brats at the moment and it's pretty funny to watch.
