    Pound for pound mvp

I will update this weekly, along with the yearly totals.

The plan is to take my own player ratings (weighted towards the primary function of a player's role) and then, with some background math, convert that to a score out of 10 compared to the average player rating in that role across the comp.

If a player serves multiple roles, it will be split across that game time or adjusted for reduced game time.

Then, one more bit of math to adjust that score, based on the likely percentage that players take up of the salary cap (Bottom 33%, middle 33% and top 33%).

10 = Carried the team, rare air role execution and impact on the result
9-8 = Elite - Role execution and impact on the result
7-6 = Good - Above Average - Role execution and impact on the result
5 = Average - Role execution and impact on the result
4-3 = Below Average - Role execution and impact on the result
2-1 = Poor - Role execution and impact on the result

Sadly when you’re best 4 performers on the season score 3’s and 4’s out of 10 in the most important game…well, you’re 100% screwed. Ed clearly injured the previous week and I’ll never understand why he returned to the field…not sure what the others can say…

cheers again to Rusty for this awesome thread.

          Great thread Rusty.

To help with the context and the rational why did James O'Donnell rate better than Rory Lobb?

Just to the naked eye, I think JOD played better the Lobb. Lobb was on a has been in Darling and JOD on a very dangerous FF. Yes Larkey kicked a few, but also got some very soft frees in front of goal.

I thought he was generous in his rating of McNeil’s game.

Good concept, will generate plenty of chatter.
Does Lobb get bonus points for playing out the game hurt?

                    I think I actually preferred Lobb's game.

But the reason for my post was to get Rusty to expand further and the JOD / Lobb comparison seemed a good one.

All I have done is arm the computer. The rating is the rating; I don't tinker with it.
                        Based on the weightings.
JOD Vs Lobb - I would say Intercept Marks and the 1v1 contest rating and main difference.
JOD is not penalised for the injury, so if he plays the game out and gets beat in a couple of 1v1s or turns it over, every chance it gets closer between them.
Lobb was not bad; he did his job.
No bonus for Lobb playing injured; the assumption would be over the long season, swings and roundabouts with that.
5 for McNeil, it is a solid score. He did his job, not a knock at all. He is one of the lowest-paid players at the club, in the best 22, performing his role. Big thumbs up, and I know you are having a laugh; nothing short of 9 would suffice for McNeil.
                        Cheers

I would think that he wouldn’t be in the bottom 20% of earners.

Could nit pick over lots of the ratings but the 2 that stand out for me were JOD and Dolan.

                            Thanks, Rusty! Interesting thread.

Where does the role-specific average player rating come from?

Can you share the underlying rating system?

Love the concept and discussion it will drive. Thanks for sharing.
