Yes I agree. The fact that “We are into Butters” but he is playing golf with Essendon and the fact we missed out on Wilkie make me think that we have just reverted to plan “B” just recruit the very best we can
    BB.

Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.

I know of a few other names we approached that the various media sources haven't mentioned. We have been more active than that as well.

Makes sense that the club would want to keep the details quiet. There would be so many dead end leads to follow.

Do we know if the door has closed on them or are they still in play?

It often starts as a sounding out process and a discussion but I don't know how things have progressed.

How many players would a club sound out each year? It would be 20-30+, wouldn't it? 90% rebuffed immediately. Of the 10%, at least half would be using us to improve their contract at their current club. A couple who genuinely consider it but choose a different option. And then there's one Connor Budarick.

It's what frustrates me about the 'we're not doing anything' narrative, because I'm sure we are doing plenty.

On the plus side we only seem to be targetting good players, not just any also-ran who happens to be available.

Player managers advise all the clubs on the contracts their players have and when they might be looking for a change of scenery.
We have been quite active but we are targeted. I would imagine we are trying to strengthen our best 25 or 30 rather than adding players for the sake of being seen to be active.
We have a reasonably strong list which was highlighted by our VFL flag but our focus in on improving that best 25.

Hard to know if we should be making our efforts known but it might appease some of us it will frustrate others.

It’s professional by the club to hold discussions privately and keep them quiet. I’d think players and managers would respect that.
                  Josie :)

I think we should. He would get a game ahead of VDM, McNeil, Sanders etc

                        Regarding Oliver Florent.
For the previous 4 years he barely missed a game at the Swans and then a new coach comes in and he almost immediately struggles for game time and a specific role.

I'd say he's a opportunity who's worth exploring but If Cal Twomey is right and he's heart is set at staying at the Swans it might be hard to turn him around.
He's got a long term deal as well which might not appeal to us.

Awful when the club asks you to explore other opportunities.

They just want to use him as Curnow bait.

I've had a number of companies asking/begging me to explore other opportunities. You get used to it

Heard a little bit of trade radio and Tom Morris said he wouldn't be surprised to see us throw some big money around at some of the best key backs in the league to see what we could get involved in. I caveat that by saying he sounded as if he had zero information and it was a thought bubble.

With that in mind, a few names that spring to mind are Tom McCartin, Sam De Koning or Jack Buckley. I like the look of Ben Miller at the Tiges too.
