Re: 2017 Draft Watch
It's a hard call, this year I'm happy I'm not Dal. Bonar has injury issues, Fogarty has injury issues. Neither get to 16 I'd bet. Then Coffield seems to get mentioned by a few. Again not to 16.
You can make solid arguments for a few players. I'm not sure how Dal would rate them in 'best available' though.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Out of those 3 I'd go with Fogarty if he was still available. Coffield would be next.
This is my top 20, I don't for a minute think it's the way it will actually fall but I think it highlights we could do well with our two selections.
1) Luke Davies-Uniacke
2) Paddy Dow
3) Cameron Rayner

Re: 2017 Draft Watch
I think it was a twofold strategy that we would 1) go into the draft with minimal picks so we might be in the strongest position and 2) we haven't had early picks for a couple of years and looked to address that.
The depth of the draft is pretty good in my opinion.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2017 Draft Watch
Cameron Rayner, Luke Davies-Uniacke or Paddy Dow could go No.1 in national draft
CARLTON could secure No.1 draft pick fancy Cameron Rayner next month as Brisbane Lions and Fremantle consider drafting Vic Country midfielders with the first two selections.
Recruiters say Rayner, 18, has the “Dustin Martin blueprint”, although the explosive Western Jet believes he plays more like Melbourne bull Christian Petracca.
Clubs are finding it difficult to separate Rayner, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Paddy Dow as this year’s cream.
Davies-Uniacke — nicknamed LDU — and Dow are considered slimmer flight risks for the Lions and Dockers, who lost homesick youngsters Josh Schache and Lachie Weller this month.
Davies-Uniacke’s mother owns a house in Brisbane, where she lived for two years, and the keen surfer from Rye would also enjoy the waves at Perth’s beaches.
The question mark on him is his endurance. But he would be a dream fit for the Blues as they chase goalkicking power in their engine room after Bryce Gibbs’ exit.
Rayner won five flags and six best-and-fairests at Hillside and was nicknamed “Hollywood” by a junior coach for his goalkicking flair.
North Melbourne holds the No.4 selection. It is likely to consider Jaidyn Stephenson and Adam Cerra.
Midfielder Andrew Brayshaw is firming as a top-10 *!selection. Western Bulldogs would be pleased to land the brother of Melbourne’s Angus at No.9.
Three clubs have two top-10 picks — the Dockers (Nos.2 and 5), the Blues (Nos.3 and 10) and St Kilda (Nos.7 and 8).
For the first time Greater Western Sydney does not have a top-10 selection after activating 19 in the past five drafts.
Luke Davies-Uniacke could also be the first selection.
The Dockers are expected to grab the best tall to go with one of Davies-Uniacke, Dow or Rayner.
They have previously been linked to Sam Hayes but clubs believe Peel Thunder’s Aaron Naughton is more likely.
Taking Naughton would gazump Collingwood’s interest in the 194cm intercepting defender. The Magpies hold the No.6 pick, their only selection in the first two rounds.
Aidan Bonar could leap into the top 15, but is laced with risk.
The powerful Dandenong Stingray recovered from his second knee reconstruction late in the season.

Knightmare's AFL list needs: Who should your club draft?
Western Bulldogs
List needs
1. Midfielders
2. General defenders
3. Crumbing forward
Draft picks: 9, 16, 82, 101
Who should they draft? With pick nine, Nick Coffield if available could fill either the club's midfield or defence needs depending on where the club feels he is most likely to play his best football. Charlie Constable around No. 16 is another who as either a midfield or general defence possesses scope to develop while being one of the more damaging ball users in the draft. With pick 82, Adam Sambono is a possible crumbing solution as a quick forward who does freakish things around goal.It always seems impossible until it's done. Nelson MandelaComment

Re: 2017 Draft Watch
Just watched some Sambono highlights. Has a bit of X factor, despite being about 55kg.
From memory a few have mentioned him already as a late pick. But if we're committed to Smith, we don't have a late pick.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

I'd be more than happy with those additions. I think Brayshaw would be a great fit for us and I think Constable would also settle in well as a big midfielderKnightmare's AFL list needs: Who should your club draft?

Re: 2017 Draft Watch
So you are bullish about us having 2 excellent additions in this year draft? Looking back at the trade period, we could have lost pick 16 to the Lions for Schache and with that a young promising player on our list.It always seems impossible until it's done. Nelson MandelaComment

Re: 2017 Draft Watch
No, but we could attempt to.
We would be required to delist Smith in accordance with rookie list rules. Then commit to him, probably using RD Pick 9. Ask him not to explore other options, except nominating for the RD. Then in most likelihood picking him up with Pick 9. In this circumstance, Smith could be on the rookie list next year and Pick 82 is live again.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
