    Re: 2017 Draft Watch

I received advice from a mate connected to another club advising that we aren't into Stephenson. He suggests that if the Saints don't take him he won't go past pick 12. I don't know how accurate this will be so take it as some speculation

It'd be strange if his heart is manageable that we'd overlook him, moreso for a KPD. Does your mate know who we are interested in?

Given Coffield sounds off the table Fogarty x 2 would be amazing. Don't think Brisbane let Fogarty past pick 15 though.

Ok team. My impeccable source who has provided me about a 95% win rate over the last half a dozen drafts has just told me the dogs are very keen on Charlie Ballard

                Re: 2017 Draft Watch

So when Naughton said “For me personally I think Melbourne, being the home of footy and playing for the biggest club in Australia, that'd be the way to go for me,” he meant us?

Naughton and Ballard would leave me very underwhelmed.

Fingers crossed for Fogarty/Coffield/Richards/Clark at 9 and Fogarty/Murphy/Bailey/Houlahan at 16.

                    Re: 2017 Draft Watch

Dal has proven he's not afraid to go tall if he sees potential (English) so maybe Naughton is simply so high on his rankings we won't pass on him unless one of Rayner, LDU, Dow, Brayshaw or Cerra is available.

I still wonder how we balance all our talls though. Adams and Cordy are defenders, at the moment Lewis Young is too and despite some patchy games, he was the youngest player in the whole competition and showed more than anyone could've possibly expected.

Schache joins Boyd up forward. Boyd can spend time in the ruck, but surely that's English in a few years as the primary, meaning Young has his work cut out to be a key forward.

On top of all that, are we going to see more sides play less key position forwards, meaning less key backs and more mobile, aerial players preferred?
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Interesting as the Hun are now reporting that today.

If we are going for Ballard (195cm), then surely we are not going for Naughton (194cm). That'd be crazy.

My thoughts exactly. Taking 2 of pretty much the same type of player would seem strange. If the rumours on Ballard are true then we have someone else in mind at 9 that isn't Naughton.

I was wondering last year if we've shifted strategy a little in the draft and now each year go for similar type of player. Get 3 -5 of them knowing that realistically only 2-3 will make it and the other 2-3 will be gone in 3 years.

Last years players all seemed similar build /style and maybe this year going for key position - ballard, naughton plus schache in the trade.

I’m not sold on Naughton but Ballard isn’t the same type of player - it’s like comparing The Bont and Kieran Collins

Who are you suggesting is like Kieran Collins?
