With Schache & Trengove we've invested in talls. If Dal wants perhaps another tall, that's his call. We still need run and carry, elite foot skills and a small forward. Naughton & Ballard as a duo of picks doesn't address our obvious weakness. So hopefully there's an elite mid/flanker still about at 9.

Ballard is a mid. He just happens to be a tall one, played on the wing this year averaging 18 touches and 4 tackles.

I'd prefer someone like Bonar over Naughton but I'm resigned to the fact Naughton is likely to be ours and will just hope his intercept marking is as good as everyone says.

Ballard needs to clean up some of his disposal but he can bring run & carry.

A quicker intercept defender would be handy, but I agree that a small tackling forward should be a higher priority.

          I’d be happy with L Fogarty/Higgins & Ballard

I think what I'm trying to express is that if we go this way (Naughton & Ballard) then we we've perhaps missed an opportunity to get to a get a potential top line future midfielder like Stephenson, Bonar and outside talents like Murphy & Richards and smalls like Higgins or L. Fogarty. I'd like at least one such player with Ballard or Nughton.

Alas, in 8 hours the debate ends and the player loyalty begins.

Im all for outside run and dash, but Im a little surprised on the Naughton negativity - he looks a pretty good footballer

                Re: 2017 Draft Watch

I appreciate the cluster-of-similar-types strategy and think it's a clever idea when we have mid range or lower picks. But not so sure it's a good plan at the top end of the draft.

                But what would I know.

Whilst I agree with you and would love to see us get an athletic long kicking linebreaker coupled with a smart natural small/mid forward, the countering argument is that we just strictly adhere to the philosophy of drafting the best available (in the eyes of Dal and team), trade for list needs and simply ignore everything else.

Fox Footy's phantom echoes some chatter that Nathan Murphy might be the bolter into the Top 10. Collingwood rate him but it's clear we are seriously into him, apparently to them Pick 6 for Murphy is a chance. The Roar also saying Murphy at 6 is a good chance.

Or maybe, we pull the trigger at 9?

In one of the interview he expressed the interest to go to Collingwood. A player with a mindset to go somewhere else rather than us may introduce problem later on when his initial contract completed.

Another phantom draft got us taking Naughton and Murphy

If D.Fogarty slips through 6 I reckon Daly takes him at 9.

Or StKilda pounce, leaving either Coffield or Clark available for us - that'd be a good outcome also.

Bulldogs football director Chris Grant discusses the club's early picks and how Josh Schache is travelling

Interesting interview with Chris Grant today. States we have factored particular list needs into our ranking process.
