    Re: Father/Son Watch

Cal Twomey on Rhylee West in his October Phantom Form Guide

    19. Rhylee West

    POS: Midfielder
    Ht 180cm, Wt 80kg, DOB 12/7/00
    From Calder Cannons/Vic Metro
    September ranking: 16

West is a powerful unit for a small player, and he has genuine ability to step out of traffic, find some space and get the ball moving forward. That agility was on show when he finished third overall in that test at the Combine last week, plus being amongst the best for the jumps tests – something obvious on the field when he flies for big marks. The Dogs' father-son prospect and inside midfielder seems likely to attract a bid somewhere late in the first round or early in the second.

Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Yep. If he gets to pick 19, or just under 1,000 draft points plus the 20% discount, that makes things rather simple with Khamis with points/pick to spare and even Dawson if we had to/want to. Makes life much easier for everyone in the recruiting/list management team.

Think it's a bit like Naish last year where clubs know they can't get him so put the time into other players and become more and more enamoured with them.

It shouldn't be a shock that West is slipping somewhat. He's primarily an inside mid and the competition is placing more emphasis on either size (185cm+, 85kg+) or pack-breaking acceleration as important components of inside midfielders. Both attributes have the same end point, getting the ball from inside and being able to transition outside with it. If Rhylee ends up anything like Scott, that won't be a huge concern as Scott's vision and ability to keep his hands free under tackling pressure allowed the same end result.

Nothing beats a natural footballer If he is prepared to do the hard work in everything else.

                Re: Father/Son Watch

Josh Kellett named in the back pocket tomorrow for Western Jets.
Ewan MacPherson named on the interchange tomorrow for Northern Knights (bottom age)
Oliver Liberatore not named in the Calder squad this week.
Daniel Romero not named in the Oakleigh squad this week.
Tyler Kolynuik not named in the Western Jets squad this week.

                Edit:

Underage NGA players (eligible drafting next year):

Ugle-Hagan is boarding in Melbourne, so now at Oakleigh. Named in the back pocket.
Stevens is named on the wing for GWV Rebels.
McDonald is not named for GWV Rebels.

                From the Oakleigh Website:

                BOTTOM-AGER TO WATCH

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (Scotch College): “We’re very fortunate that Jamarra has come to our program this year from the GWV Rebels while he boards at Scotch College. He’s a developing tall player with great reach and great hands and he moves the ball well.”

Report from the weekend's Western Jets game where Josh Kellett was BOG:

One player who needed no settle time was Josh Kellett, son of one-time Western Bulldogs speedy utility Nigel. Kellett was superb in his role across half-back, effective both defensively and with his rebound out of defence.

“He used the ball well, defended well and he was definitely one of our better players,” O’Keefe said.

“He had a really good game and his form all pre-season was fantastic.”
Nice work by the club getting Nigel to 101 games

                    Thank god it wasn't 99!

I'm really looking forward to his season. Oliver Liberatore has a bigger name and spotlight, but Kellett on just cursory glances has won or been a top place finisher in most awards, made all the interleague and development squads in his year etc. I think he's the one to watch. My intel has always been to watch Kellett, including an opposition coach in his league with very good insights last year who really emphasised this point.

I don’t think Libba was picked for round 1.

Nope. Libba, Romero & Kolynuik all not selected as above.

But three underage prospects playing on the weekend additionally is a good sign.

I hope someone may be able to answer these questions.

What year is Josh available as a father/son pick.
                          Is he fast?
                          How tall is he?

                          Thanking you in advance.

Born in 2001 so this is his draft year.

175cm based on Western Jets site.

No idea how quick he is, I’m assuming he’s got some pace.

If he has his dad's posture he'd probably be 190 cm if he stood up straight.

I'm all in on the Jamarra Ugle-Hagan train though. We really could have a good one here.
