    Re: Father/Son Watch

I used to love watching Crofty. He played undersized down back against the games best forwards in Lockett, Dunstall, Carey and Ablett to name a few. His last game was a ripper. I think he kicked six goals against North on a Friday night.

Our under 16s are playing now, Jaxon Cooney is at full forward wearing 16. He attacks the ball pretty well in the air, almost Naughton like although he doesn't have the sticky hands like Naughton. Looks like the tallest kid out there as well.

Is that the son of Essington legend Adam Cooney?

This is from VitalDread over on BigFooty who is much more switched on with this stuff

Dogs NGA Team go undefeated today
          Dogs 48 vs Geelong 15

          Dogs 52 vs Blues 19

          Dogs 55 vs Bombers 8

No Team list so only going off what i could hear

Best Players: Jaxon Cooney, Max Darcy, Levi West

Cooney kicked 8.6 from the three games

Only just realize which number is Levi West in the under 16's game
The kid is a jet, broke almost all tackles today, and has great outside speed
          Kicks well on both feet

Sounds like we've got at least two interesting players although West and Cooney aren't eligible until 2026 and 2025 respectively.

Is Levi one of the twins? A few years ago one of the twins wasn't interested in Footy

No - from an old list I can see Cooper and Kobi West would have been eligible for last years draft. Obviously they either weren't interested in footy or weren't good enough. Levi is a few years younger.

                  Thanks, I couldn't remember.

I was waiting for the day when the footy was on and we heard, West passes to West who hand balls to West, who kicks it to West for a goal

                    Re: Father/Son Watch

Potential father-son selections do their chances no harm with polished performances

It wasn’t a time warp, but for Bulldogs, Bombers and Tigers supporters the exploits of three young guns eligible for father-son draft selections made great viewing recently.

Excuse spectators at last Sunday’s Essendon District Football League Under-14 Division 1 grand final between Strathmore and Aberfeldie for thinking they were stuck in a time warp as on-field action played out.

When the going got tough in the last quarter, Strathmore midfielder Levi West was at every coalface, winning contested ball and feeding it out to his teammates. Just like his father, Scott West, did in 324 games for the Western Bulldogs.

And in a magical moment, bottom-age Strathmore player Koby Bewick took on his Aberfeldie opponent, bounced the footy and kicked a sublime goal on the run. Just like his dad, Darren Bewick, did in 238 matches for Essendon.

Ultimately, Strathmore got up by eight points. West was awarded the medal for best afield and Bewick booted three of his team’s five goals and was named his team’s second-best player. For Bomber and Bulldogs fans, it was a game that will hopefully prove significant down the track regarding father-son draft selections.

Strathmore coach Travis Fitzpatrick summed up the pair like this: “Levi West is a very fair player but he hits the packs so hard that opposition players tend to stand back at times.

“Koby Bewick has that sense of occasion that is rare in footballers and a touch of brilliance as he showed in the grand final when he took it upon himself to make a difference.

“More importantly they are both good kids. Will they play AFL? You can’t say that, but the signs are very positive.”

Tevita Rodan, the son of former Richmond, Port Adelaide and Melbourne player and current AFL goal umpire David Rodan, was named Aberfeldie’s second-best player against Strathmore, while Leigh Tudor’s son Charlie (who isn’t eligible to Geelong under father/son) plays for Essendon Doutta Stars, also in under-14s.

Collingwood 1990 premiership star Mick McGuane coached Keilor’s under-16 team to a 10-point EDFL Division 1 grand final victory against Westmeadows, with McGuane’s son, Thomas, among Keilor’s best.

                      ...for the West(ern Bulldogs)
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Times they are a changing. Andrew Dunkley, Brian Cordy & Mark Hunter are all one club players. Now it’s looking likely that all three sons will join a second club, in one trade period. While Steve Wallis son is not yet signed for 2023 either.

Another Darcy coming through. Max, Luke's boy, won the Glen Iris Gladiators' U13 b&f while playing a year above his age group. And FYI: he played in the same side as the sons of former Bulldogs Andrew Nichol and Paul Satterley.
