Think Weightman is a good chance to get there and its only early days. He certainly has the intensity, but just needs to find some more composure. I definitely do not think he would be the right fit for selection v Richmond, as composure will be our most important trait to find this Friday night.

Players mature at different levels/ rates, I think we need to take a bit of a breath with Weightman.
I’m not saying he needs to be Pickett (he was drafted after him after all) or even an AFL regular/fringe guy, I just want to see *something* that says he’s worth persisting with for the long term. From what I’ve seen at both levels he can go entire games without any impact on the contest and it’s a concern. We’re talking about delisting/moving on guys here who have proven AFL quality and it’s necessarily pretty ruthless in the spot we’re in. I’m not saying we should get rid of him I’m just asking the question.

As Mantis said he was pretty good in the second half of last week’s VFL game. Let’s hope he can build from there.

I think Weightman is fine. I just think that he isn't really the type of 'small forward' that we needed when we recruited him. He is an exciting small-medium forward but (turning the clock back somewhat for comparisons to avoid talking about Picket) more like Mark LeCras than Phil Matera (trying to think of a team that had a permanent medium forward AND small forward was quite hard).

He was 'sold' to our supporters as a 'small forward' but I don't think that term means the same thing to everyone.

I too am sceptical of whether Weightman has it but am very happy to give him time to prove he is good enough.

I like Jong but he hasn't been a best 22 guy since maybe 2016, and he is virtually never fit for long enough to disprove that. Would let him go.

Cavarra is the type I like but we seem reluctant to want to play him so what's the point? Unless that changes we can delist him a second time.

Hayes likewise was ok when we persisted with him but we seem uninterested in him and his pod is pretty neglible so don't know why we kept him.

Roarke is the one of the fringe guys I like the most, not cause I think he is good enough but he is a depth player we actually seem to want to use so that's fine, although I'd happily cut him.

Schache needs something to change if he wants to be an AFL footballer in 2 years time. Either needs a club that can and wants to give him opportunity as a forward or try to become a key defender. I'd be happy to trade him for nothing.

Cordy is handy enough, I don't think he should be best 22 but is handy mature depth at either end which is super handy.

Lipinski and Richards are both way too good to trade, their market value is at best like pick 20 which is stuff all. I'd rather keep them as they both should be best 22 by mid next year, but would understand if they wanted out.

Lewis Young is ok, but we clearly don't rate the player he currently is. He plays like a very enthusiastic under 15 player so maybe when he matures he will be better but how long can we wait? Another year i guess, but again we seem uninterested in him so if that's the case just let him go.

JJ has been pretty poor of late, but can be a good player. A pretty cheap extension would be fine, but without him improving to actually force us to consider him as a best 22 player again I am unconvinced he is worth fighting to keep of other clubs come circling.

Wallis I love, but he is super redundant now that our forward line has an abundance of marking talls and the midfield is even more congested. I'd happily give him another year on not much dollars, he is a good guy to have at the club and handy depth in a number of roles. However if another club came calling and he wanted to go I'd obviously not stand in the way.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

There was a bit of scuttlebutt about Ben McKay last year. We were also enquiring about Jack Payne/Lions (Cal Twomey) as well. We put a bid on Essendon NGA Cody Brand at the 2020 national draft. None of these came to fruition so I expect we will be in the hunt again this year.

Do we really love Ben McKay? He has no intercept game whatsoever and seems nothing more than competent as a stopper. If pick 18 is the cost I’d rather the pick.

Of course anyone would take Weitering over McKay, but he signed a 4 year deal recently and would be 100% untouchable.

                        Well, yeah.

That's like saying I'd rather Dustin Martin over Levi Greenwood.

I think he’s been very good this year considering the mountain of easy inside 50s his side lets in. Would happily take him over either of Gardner or Cordy.
