Like Mitch his best position is as an inside mid, but he isn't big enough to play there so has to be some kind of hard at it forward. For me he doesn't have the tricks the others have (Garcia is good in close, McNeill is a better user and more outside, Scott plays within his limitations really well and is a good mix of everything). He also does a lot of dumb stuff which is infuriating (flies for marks despite being tiny, takes on tacklers despite being tiny), and doesn't have the physical attributes like speed to make up for his lack of size. If another club wants to offer him opportunity and years he should take it, he could maybe squeeze out some years or even a career as an AFLish level player, but I don't think so with us.
Like you say, he's just not going to cut it as an inside mid with us. He's too small on top of other deficiencies. Why not try him in a defensive role? Put him in a back pocket, give him the job of locking down the best opposition small forward and see how he goes.

There aren't many ''Gia'' types running around these days... if you're a medium/ small and aren't quick, you need to be elite in lots of other facets of the game, and that isn't true with Pat.

Sure its worth a try but like I said one of his biggest deficiencies is that he does not play the percentages, and that would have to change for him to succeed in defence. I'd also be sceptical as to what he offers as a defender, he isn't big.enough to be great one on one, isn't really a runner for rebound and isn't good enough overhead nor a great kick to be that steadying influence.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

              No.
              Actually, God no.

We already have a glut of capable backline mid sized players who can run the ball. Putting Lippi back there who quite frankly can't run it anywhere near as well makes us weaker.

A player adapts to the team. The team doesn't adapt to a fringe player.

I was talking about West trialling in lock down role in defence at Footscray.

Rhylee is only 21, and by the time Libba's most likely winding down he'll be 23 and ready to go. It's our challenge to try and hang onto him because he will be a good inside midfielder at AFL level when he gets his chance.

Nah. Cheap lunches at bowls club when at Windy Hill and all the planes to can spot at Tulla. Plus he gets every September off. Pretty sweet deal.

I accidentally watched 10 mins of their game recently (Dons) and my word you can see the Gia influence. They flick it around with handball a lot.

I hope you're right but I'm not seeing it. At least not as an elite inside midfielder like Libba. I think Garcia, Dunks or Smith are more likely to feature in the engine room as Libba winds down. Rhylee probably more a depth player going forward. Thats no indictment on him. It's just that the midfield dept is so strong.

I think if Rhylee makes it then it's as a forward. He's got a few tricks and his one-on-one work is actually pretty nice.

Of course, that begs the question if there's a spot for him there either, but I think it gives him a better shot with his skill set.
