Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Cracking win by SA v Vic Country on Sunday. Had a closer than usual look at at the GWV boys playing for VC as it's an area I think we should be farming.
George Stevens was terrific and one of VC'S best players, if not best. A real powerhouse. Would like him in our jumper.
Luamon Lual - I have to say was disappointing. Didn't get it much and turned it over a few times. Seemed to be off the pace of the game.
Joel Freijah - had an ok game but would like to see a bit more having a crack!
Lachie Charleson - showed some dash.
Really liked Kade de la Rue. Caught my eye earlier this season with his creativity, neat kicking off both feet and goal sense.
Tyler Welsh, son of Scott, for SA was fantastic. Another father/son who should be ours. I don't care about Adelaide's hold on him.
I'm really warming to small forward Jack Delean. Another 4 goal haul and he gets them in different ways.Josie :)
Our day will come
And we'll have everything.
We'll share the joy
Just like '54 again.Comment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
The Vic Country vs SA game highlighted some impressive prospect that give some depth to the draft this year.
George Stevens who trained with us for a few sessions in January along with Croft and Lual is an impressive performer and is in a lot of ways already physically ready to compete at the senior level. I hope he is on our radar.
As Doc highlighted Luamon Lual had a problem handling the pace and pressure of the game and made some costly decision making and skill errors.
The good thing might be that I think he would be regarded out of the best 40 this year so we might only need to match a late pick for him.
I knew Doc would be drawn to both Jack Delean and Lachie Charleson who really know their forward craft.
I liked some of Harry De Mattia run and dash and I think he's a player with a lot of upside.
Kobe Shipp (son of Andrew) caught the eye a few times.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Hi G - I remember seeing this 'third' person training with us in the pre-season (Stevens). He was restricted to laps for a couple of sessions and when running the boundary, I noted his mature size and thought he was a 'top up' player training with us not fully realising he was underage per Croft and Lual. Thought he had a bit of height about him as well - 189cm.There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Always curious about the upside in players like Stevens given others from the draft class will progress more as they add strength etc in professional programs, but you look at players like Rich, Hurn, Rowell etc there are a lot who have come in had an impact and forged long careers too.
Matt Watson and Dad Collins a few on the other side of the spectrum.
Shaping up as an interesting draft. I’m no where near as close to it as I used to be quite a few years ago so look forward to reading all the analysis and thoughts.Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?Comment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
Interesting comment from a draft watcher on Stevens - "he's Ginbey without the pace" as a defender.
DeMattia could be a late bolter if his off-field stuff checks out as ok. Some say it's overblown and he's just immature, others said he has a few issues to work out.
Suns Academy kids x 3 are looking even better than expected this year. They're going to have to be very creative as their points needed will be more than any other team in draft historyWestern Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Re: 2023 Draft Watch
I think they need to trade out some talent they can afford to lose. Sam Flanders maybe? Then trade picks like crazy. But to use them all they’ll need to cut really, really deep. So there may well be a fire sale on up there for mid-fringe players if any interest us. Plus their first rounder is absolutely on the table. I also wonder if they’ll do salary cap dumps to retain them all going ahead with the guns they need to keep too. Might do it all in one off season?
Flanders seems a likely type to come back to Victoria.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment
