    Re: 2023 Draft Watch

McKercher would be my preference, think he's a perfect fit for what our midfield needs. Burst pace, lovely kick, wins his own footy - he looks very Zak Butters to me in the way you 'notice' when he has the footy. Strong possession getter, but strong impact per disposal too.

I think WCE would be daft to pass up Curtin. I've really enjoyed watching him play more outside, half-back receiver at senior level - I don't think there are many key position backs at AFL level who can actively contribute to rebound from D50 in the way he's shown (maybe Darcy Moore?).

I'd be happy with Watson but from what I've seen, he feels a bit Cody Weightman. I think our midfield is a bigger concern and I think his best place will always be small forward. Similarly, I'd be happy for Duursma to be off the board. Think his best place at AFL level will be as a marking medium forward and it's not a need for us. He projects a little 'Jake Stringer' to me.

Sanders is an interesting prospect. Watching him run around really reminds me of Brad Johnson on a wing. It's a bit of an awkward gait and awkward kicking style, but I think he'll play plenty of very good senior footy.

      Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Thinking of the dominoes, while Watson isn’t the pure mid…

Let’s say we get him Lohmann & Ginnivan for conversation sake. These boys and Clarke take three forward spots on form. Weightman gets moved into the HHF/mid role who will still spend time forward.

West & Garcia (McComb & McNeil if around) only play in the team as mids.

Arty takes his speed and endurance to the wing. Liam Henry style.

Williams maybe takes Duryea’s role down back if he can. Along with hopefully comp from Gags & Cleary.

Work out where Daniel is going to play.

Try to add some variety into our CBA’s. If we can’t afford to plonk Macrae at HF, work him into the game plan to be effective or look at trading him. Only rest mids forward who can actually hurt an opponent such as Bont & Adz.

Try to trade/FA in a good mid next year if possible and/or necessary. I’m pretty confident Levi West (mid) will be a player and come down the line shortly to bolster our mids squad. Hopefully Weightman & Watson can be effective at sharing some mid minutes and bring a handful up forward. While two other pressure forwards hold down the fort.

We just need time for Darcy, Buss & Croft to show why they’re first rounders at the highest level - plus hoping JOD trajectory continues to go up. While Keath is gone next year, and perhaps Jones & Lobb the year after or if into 2026 they won’t be forces.

Hopefully we are still talking to Doedee, even a recovering TD is a massive upgrade on Croz & TOB.

If Smith & English won’t sign reasonable extensions right now, and if there are good offers out there, then for the longer term top 10 picks this year is preferable. I maintain we can’t really afford to pay any ruckman $1M+ a season. So I’d still listen to offers unless there’s commitment coming imminently. The rumours of Hawks and something involving 3, or Geelong with 7 on Smith and say 2 or 3 if WCE do a deal with North or 5 if the Melbourne rumour had any seriousness to it, would be put towards some very good players this year and not have us Dunkley’ing them without a contract next year. So our climb back up the ladder is advanced by doing it now.

So I like Watson & Croft, hopefully Lual slips as a bonus, and with some good acquisitions around them, might be the only silver lining of 2023. Then hopefully there’s a reset on the MC and game plan with different players such that we get some sort of a bounce and change up our predicable look.

        Re: 2023 Draft Watch

We'll effectively have pick 6 with Walter going to GC (assuming we get the suns pick. This could all be moot if we dont).
So the consensus top 6 guys in some form is:
        Reid
        Curtain
        Walter
        McKercher
        Duurama
        Watson

We surely end up with one of them.

        It might look like:
        1. Curtain
        2. Reid
        3. Walter
        4. McKercher
        5. Duursma
        6. Watson

I'd love McKercher. He'd be perfect for us but I don't think there's any chance he falls to us.

McKercher where do I sign? I hope we don't take Sanders, looks a nice player but too vanilla for a top 6 pick.

Looking at highlights of Watson and McKercher just makes me want two top 10 picks so much more. Bringing two in can transform your club as we've seen in history.

Just get Baz & Tim to go for 3 & 5 and get three in a row. Be greedy man!

                  McKercher moves like Nick Daicos.

BF suggesting Power went to watch Lance Colllard in WA over the weekend, the kid certainly has wheels.

Would be interested on MJP's thoughts?

Collard kicked 10 goals in his 2 finals games at colts level.

If we were to add The Whizz & Collard our games will be fun to watch.

Isn’t Collard a WCE nga player?

Does that mean we would have to select him prior to pick 40?

                        He looks great!

                            He's very exciting.

He also does a lot of stupid, undisciplined stuff, waves his finger at the crowd, provides feedback to the oppo bench and generally carries on like a peanut.

                            BUT.

He's very exciting. Can stand on heads and kicks goals.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

It looked pretty good in that video, seems like he loves laying big tackles.
