    From a list management perspective what areas do we need to focus on?
    We know we are getting a key forward for the future with a father son pick, we suspect we are getting a small forward at pick 6 and we are hopeful we can pick up up a smaller defender who's been in our NGA program but that means we have a few more spots to fill.

    From a DFA perspective, Sam Power has indicated that finding a ruckman is a focus and from there I'm assuming we probably need a midfielder with a bit of pace and experience so what else do we need?

    So it could be:
    Watson or Sanders
    Croft
    Lual

    In an ideal scenario what other positions do we need to fill?
    An inside mid with a later pick could be nice in that scenario. A ruckman of course has to be on the list either as a draftee of DFA. I there's been speculation about Bramble from the Hawks and if he can defend I'm interested though he seems more a running defender with at times questionable disposal. Though maybe our interest in him is dependent on if we get Lual?

      Josh Chatfield being considered for a rookie spot at a few clubs including us, apparently been pretty impressive in some interviews that he has had.

        For a team where our bottom 6 players (& at least one of top liners) have suspect disposal, a number of whom have been delisted, I kinda hope we can select someone else. Perhaps I’m haunted by our not so successful recent vfl upgrades (JoD excluded). However if Josh is rookied by us I’m inclined to trust our club given how ruthless we’ve been this year, and support him.

            What are Josh's positive points? His stats, aside from a couple of games with 3 goals or more, aren't exactly overwhelming.

              They did a review, kept the coach, changed a few things around.
              I don?t think it?s anywhere as bad as people think. No players wanted out is a sign.
              Yep. And other than the trash media (I repeat myself) line that Bevo is the reincarnation of Pol Pot, you never hear a bad word spoken about Bevo from players or anyone who spends time with him. I think he is a brilliant one on one communicator and definitely has not lost the playing group. I have no doubt he considers a variety of people's input into his decisions. The fact that when appointed he kept all the existing assistants and staff and managed to work successfully to win a premiership with them tells you he doesn't need to surround himself with yes men.

                I wonder if Kane Mcauliffe could be in the mix in our range?

                Sounds like a good inside mid prospect with some wheels.

                Ashton Moir is another SA player I like the sound of.
                Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

                  A few spots need to be filled. One small forward and as many midfielders we have spots for should be the priority for us.
                  We already have Weightman, Arty Jones and Clarke as small forwards but one more would be worthwhile. We need more depth in the midfield though.

                      The matches I saw him play this year I would think he would be lucky to be drafted by us.

                        Moir is super skilled and I really hope we DON'T take him.
                        Just seems to lack that competitive edge and gets through games on natural talent. I wonder if he'd get found out at AFL level

                          Interesting one. I haven’t seen much of him, so more basing it off his attributes and strengths than anything else. A lot of that would come down to his preparation and track work for me - does he work hard on his training / eating right etc etc. if so that may indicate a good level of determination even though it’s not evident on the park which may be more reflective of his playing style.

                            I'd rather a flawed but desperate player with a late pick, personally. A Tim Callan BP who never made a rep squad.

                              Re: 2023 List Management Thread

                              What does everyone think our most pressing needs at the 2024 draft are?

                              From Axe Man's Player Contract thread the current state of play with our list is;

                              Contracted Players = 35 (31 Primary List, 3 Category A Rookies, 1 Category B Rookie)
                              Open List Spots = 8

                              We know or think the following;

                              * Anthony Scott will be upgraded to the primary list
                              * Taylor Duryea will be re drafted most likely to the rookie list
                              * Lachlan McNeill will be re drafted to the rookie list

                              (Duryea and/or McNeill could be drafted elsewhere but unlikely most would suspect)

                              Therefore that would alter our list to

                              32 on the Primary List
                              4 Category A rookies
                              1 Category B Rookie

                              Open list spots = 6

                              We also know we will be getting

                              1 x Elite Talent with pick 6 (most likely small forward Watson or midfielder Sanders)

                              1 x Key Forward - Jordan Croft.

                              So now we are down to 4 list spots. What do we do with them?

                              In no particular order my view is;

                              1 spot for a Ruckman

                              We have Tim English as our no.1 Ruckman with 2nd Ruck/Key Forwards Lobb and Darcy the back ups. We surely have to draft a primary ruckman, a specialist in the position. Not a hybrid.

                              1 spot for a Half Forward

                              regardless of whether we draft Watson we lack quality half forwards. Guys who can deliver efficiently inside 50, snag a goal themselves and help out in midfield. Must be able to impact on the scoreboard!!!! We have tried a plethora of out of position players in these roles for years. Lets get some specialists.

                              1 spot for a Small Forward

                              A Small forward who excels at ground level and can hit the scoreboard. A finisher. Watson would be ideal but if we get Sanders then we need to find another goalsneak/crumber. Even if we do get Watson I'd still happily snap up another.

                              1 spot for the Mid Season Draft

                              It's just common sense!

                              I'm sure many will disagree with the possibility that we could draft 2 small forwards and a half forward. My reasoning is based on the fact that currently on our list we only have Weightman and Clarke who are specialist small forwards. The half forward roles have been filled with misplaced midfielders like Macrae, Smith, West, Garcia or players who we aren't sure quite where their best position is, Scott, Artie & Bedendo. This is where our list is not properly balanced in my view.

                              I realise a lot of people would also like a small defender to come in and replace Duryea. We do have Vanders. We have a few mediums who could be suited to the role. Richards I think could be a good general down back and hurt opposition gun forwards with his rebound as well as being excellent at defending. We have just brought in Coffield, we have Clearly and I really like young Gallagher. I think we have some options here.

                              How do you see our needs?

                                My thoughts are draft players this year because of attributes. Speed, a little bit of mongrel, a natural footballer, and likes a contest. Maybe have three of those but four is better.
