Focusing on the small/medium defenders in 2023, some highlights from worst to best:

    Impey 83.3%
    Liam Baker 60%
    Noble 60%
    Whitfield 54.5%
    Maynard 36.7%
    Jake Lloyd 30.8%
    Duryea 27.3%
    Keidan Coleman 26.3%
    Starcevich 25.6%
    Dale 21.4%
    Stewart 18.8%
    Saad 17.4%
    Quaynor 16.7%
    Salem 14.3%
    Richards 11.1%

    Wheelo Ratings
It's an interesting list and I know it kind of supports my point, but it is still not reflective of what is what.

In the Hill/Coleman contest I referred too on GF day, Coleman would not have had a stat recorded...being too lazy to engage with your oppo before the ball arrives and then watching as he takes a um 10m in front of you is an entirely different category. Likewise Baker pushing back from his high role to defend the high ball over the back DOES count even though it isn't really his fault. Lies and damned statistics as always...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

        DOGS FACE UNCERTAIN WAIT

HAYDEN Crozier and Roarke Smith remain in limbo at the Western Bulldogs after the club delisted 2016 premiership player Toby McLean on Friday.

McLean is on the hunt for a new home after being informed he won’t be offered another deal at the Western Bulldogs.

The 27-year-old had been forced to wait since the end of the season but the acquisition of James Harmes from Melbourne confirmed the news he was hoping wouldn't come.

Crozier has struggled with injury issues in the past few years, managing only 19 appearances since the end of 2020, but the former Docker is keen to play on and been told a decision will be made after the trade period.

The Bulldogs have recently re-signed veteran small defender Taylor Duryea for next year and are understood to be open to extending Crozier for next year, after opting to delist experienced tall Tim O’Brien last month.

Smith didn't play a senior game in 2023 and only managed four VFL appearances for Footscray due to repeated foot issues. – Josh Gabelich

If we have Pick 5 and use 5 picks in Croft - We need six list spots open to use the points. That assumes we trade or pass of picks 72 & 75.

Option 1: Bruce, Hannan, Sweet, McLean, TOB, Croz or Bedendo (6)
Option 2: Bruce, Hannan, Sweet, McLean, TOB, one new main list spot, removing a rookie list spot (3 vacancies after Roarke & McNeil
          Either delisted or promoted) (6)

Note: The option two impacts our salary cap by around $70,000 a season

Note: Promote Scott and any other rookie after the ND.

Note: If we have six vacancies, but use three picks, elevate Scott as we must, then we have two spots open. Perhaps to elevate rookies, get our ruck cover, or re-draft a delisted player.

I'd keep Smith. Just for S&Gs.

No really, he is good enough to add depth at worst and play a role at best if he can get his body right.
            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

              I wasn't aware we'd re-signed Duryea.

Having to have those 6 spots open if we need to use 5 picks on Croft. I'm trying to check that but from memory something changed a couple of years back.

There was a once off exemption to this rule in the year we got Marra, owing to the COVID, but the rule is back in force. GCS are facing the same issue with 1,000,000 picks and maybe 7 spots being open.

                            WESTERN BULLDOGS

                            — GOT Picks 4, 46, 51 and Gold Coast’s future third-round pick | GAVE AWAY Picks 10, 17 and their own future first-round pick

                            — GOT James Harmes from Melbourne | GAVE AWAY their own future third-round pick

Summary: Their most important move is already complete - that’s nabbing pick 4 (now 5) - while James Harmes should be handy. But there’s still a few minor moves to work out here too. They’re expected to complete a move for former top-10 pick Nick Coffield in the coming days, after plenty of progress in talks with St Kilda. The Saints were hopeful of landing pick 40 as part of the deal - so they could use it to nab Freo’s Liam Henry - potentially with other picks going back and forth as well. The Power have a lot to do, so their move for Jordon Sweet has taken its sweet time, with the Dogs likely to aim for a late second or early third-round pick (the Power have 41 and 49) in return. Premiership player Toby McLean was delisted on Friday, after a last few years ruined by ACL injuries, and could find a new home over the next couple of months. If there’s any interest in Hayden Crozier - who was quietly linked to Carlton earlier in the year - he could make a late move, even as a delisted free agent.

The Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn were well down the line in terms of preparing a move for Lachie Schultz in 12 months time, when he would’ve been out of contract for Fremantle before being traded to Collingwood
