    Re: 2024 List Management Thread

There'd be no way i'd even come close to offering English $1M per season. We simply can't afford to sink that much money into a ruckman, let alone one with the risk of concussion like he has. He is a luxury that we have right now, but plenty of sides have shown you only need a serviceable ruckman who competes to make top 4 and win finals. I know they have recently upped salaries under the new player agreement but i'd have the $1M contracts saved for true game winners.

Glad it's not me making the decision anyway. Another team might offer him that amount of money and he moves on to great success, but I just can't see how we could make that call without really affecting our ability to hold / attract those mid-range players that every team needs and their success is often hinged upon.

It's a hard one and while I agree with the sentiment there is probably no way he doesn't get a 1M a year type deal. Trying to keep the number of years down is the key but a 4 or 5 year deal seems around the mark.

The market determines what he will earn. We may all think anything over $1 million is too much, but offers will come in and that will be his price.

We don't have to match every offer though and just getting it close should be sufficient.

I didn't say match, but the market will determine the figure we end up agreeing on.

I think a million is about right for the AA ruckman.

A million is also not a million as we're used to it. Remember there's a new salary cap increase so it'll feel like players are being overpaid for a bit especially at the top end

The reported offer from WCE was $10m over 7 years.
Sean Darcy (same draft class) just signed a 6 year deal and that's with a brilliant back-up on big money (Jackson)

English will get paid well wherever he plays next year. If he signs for $900k-$1m pa with us he's likely signed unders to stay.

WCE, North, Hawks have plenty of cap.

Agree it?s a difficult one. I think he is worth top end money, as long, and it?s a big unknown, it doesn?t impact our ability to lock in current and emerging stars. JUH is obviously the key priority to retain.
I?m not overally concerned on Smith, but Darcy is prob the next key and that?s a few years away for a big contract.
Under that it?s a pretty stable list with no one jumping out as demanding serious coin that isn?t already in top dollar.

What’s the right price for someone who finished 7th in our B&F?

                        I wouldn?t base anything on where you finish in a B&F .
Your salary is based on how you perform your job within the team and what you bring to a team, your market price and your upside in the future.
