It's in line with the modern media approach of creating news that plays into the viewers/readers emotions. News is all about creating fear and uncertainty so viewers get hooked. Same case here. They know fans get fearful or hopeful of player changes and will click any link for an update. Sad state of affairs.

JAMARRA'S $1.2M ASKING PRICE FOR RIVALS

Rival offers for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will have to start at $1.2 million as his price continues to rise in a market with so few key forwards available.

Ugle-Hagan has said he wants to stay at Whitten Oval and it would still be a huge surprise if he left the Bulldogs given his key role and strong friendship with captain Marcus Bontempelli.

But in any contract negotiation it would be irresponsible not to get a price indication of what rivals will offer. Those clubs - which include Richmond and Hawthorn - are aware the deal would need to be well over a $1m per season to even get in the conversation.

A four-year deal would take Ugle-Hagan to free agency, while a three-year deal would see him come out of contract as Tasmania comes into the competition.

What would our trade demand be hypothetically then? A Judd like trade?

Just saying, because I think he stays, what would a 7 year x $1.3M trade look like?

Sam Edmond said this morning, dogs fans should not be worried about JUH leaving, he is very happy at the Kennel.

The only decisions he is thinking about are whether to back himself in and go for a 4 year contract taking him to free agency, or sign a two year and try cash in big from there.

News just in: Sam Edmond sacked for not hyping up every conceivable trade scenario under the sun. Doesn't he know there are no clicks in a player re-signing for minnow club?

He mentioned half a dozen clubs enquiring etc, but said JUH is happy. Hoping he is right

                      DOGS MAKE BAILEY OFFER

THE Western Bulldogs have put forward a two-year extension to re-sign Bailey Smith as they move to lock in their three big guns.

However, Smith is expected to wait until deeper into the season before making a contract decision as he gets into the different stages of his recovery from his knee reconstruction.

Geelong, Hawthorn and Collingwood are all expected to be suitors for Smith through the season as he weighs his contract call, while the Dogs' two-year offer would take him through to free agency at the end of his eighth year in 2026.

Along with Smith, the Dogs' other contract priorities are star free agent Tim English and gun young forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

English is expected to hold until deeper into the season amid interest from West Coast, which is believed to have met with the ruckman last time he was out of contract, while Ugle-Hagan is the subject of significant interest from a number of clubs.

Gettable revealed last week Richmond was in the hunt, with Hawthorn also chasing the former No.1 pick. Collingwood, Essendon and Sydney have also been linked.

However, the Bulldogs have remained confident with where talks are placed, with the potential of a two-year deal or four-year extension through to free agency. ? Callum Twomey

What is Smith really waiting for? It’s not like he can dominate for a few months to generate interest. Either he’s taking other offers or waiting to see if we implode???

I think he's one of those players who doesn't need to be on the field to still generate interest. He has a distinct skillset that is attractive to many clubs. In a few months time with no exposed footy form, as ageing midfielders at other clubs show signs of decline.... you can bet recruiters will romanticise Smith's capabilities, and recall less and less his propensity at times to butcher the ball.
He may not want to leave, but he may want to drive up his value. Right now, coming into a new season every team's ageing midfielders are still rolls royce's...that's why their respective clubs have them going around again.......but come end of winter...Bailey is going to look more of a target and he can use that to pry some more money out of us for 2 more years, as some of them decline.
I'm looking at you Dangerfield and Dusty,

I wonder if he's waiting to see what happens with a few of those other guys as well? If English is looking more likely to leave than stay, it gives us a lot more space in the cap and I'm sure his manager and Marra's would be asking for a slice of that.

Could be. Personally I’m a little tired of the Bailey Smith Experience. Either sign up or come to an agreement with the club (not that the club needs it, but would be better to have it) to move to the LTI and open up a MSD Pick. I don’t think the club could’ve done more for him and it would be nice to see a quick decision to show some reciprocity.

I understand where you might be coming from BT, but I still have a reservoir of patience when it comes to potential star bulldogs player - Smiths best is superb

I know he didnt have an unbelievable 2023 but I still remain hopeful that Smith will play great footy for us - its not easy to replace players of his quality

However, if he decided to go, then he would be effectively dead to me, and I would never be interested again
