I am not excited by potentially obtaining Dawes. It is widely recognised that he is the ultimate prefessional when it comes to traning/professionalism and preparing himself for games. Has an attitude second to none.

Can someone please explain to me why Port Adelaide gave up pick 48 for Gus when they could have got him for nothing as a restricted free agent? This doesn't make sense to me.

Dawes would be ok in a team of kids to provide a bit of body but we will pay overs for him. No thanks.

The talk of Fevola getting a few offers is surprising, given the amount of party pies he is carrying, and how many rolls of bandage he has on his leg. I'm guessing his manager is talking to himself....

Got something to do with the Compo Port and Essendon are going to get having obtained and unloaded free agents.

Which to me smacks of manipulation of the intended FA compensation system.

Can someone please explain to me why Port Adelaide gave up pick 48 for Gus when they could have got him for nothing as a restricted free agent? This doesn't make sense to me.

Port believes it will get good compensation for the loss of Chaplin and Pearce but that the effect of signing Monfries as a free agent would substantially reduce that compo. Port thinks that the reduction in compo would have been greater than the pick 40-something they offered to Essendon.

See I think the opposite, that Dawes would be okay in the situation where he is the foil for a strong forward line, in a team with a strong midfield.
But I agree with your final assessment that we will pay overs for him and no thanks.

I'm getting the distinct vibe though that we are increasingly looking like his main suitor.
I sincerely hope not.

So if the saints ended up signing a free agent that was worth the same compensation as Goddard the AFL would not give the saints compensation for Goddard?

Rumour is that we have offered Collingwood picks 41 and 47 for Dawes. Collingwood want 21 and 47.

If we got him for 41 and 47 I would be happy.
