We all know the answer to that.

If what BAD is suggesting that picks 41 and 47 have been rejected, and knowing that Melbourne's pick 13 (now gone to GWS) has been in play on the Dawes discussions, it will be very interesting to see what eventuates. Yesterday's soundbite to explain the Lake trade might be tomorrow's fish and chip paper.

Anyway it's all hypothetical, so we should all see how it plays out (if at all).

Sedat, do you rate Dawes? If so, what do you think is a fair trade? pick 21? or 41 and 47 downgraded to 58 plus a player (Sherman)

Hard to say. He has achieved more in his career and is at the right age profile to command a higher pick than 41. I'm not sure we need another lumbering tall on a list that is full of these types already - some explosive power running midfielders with good skill is what we are in desperate need of, and if there's a player earmarked at pick 21 that we think has this skills set, we should hold onto the pick. After all, JMac told all and sundry just what a fantastic coup it was to have gained another 1st round draft pick as a result of the Lake trade.

Pick 41 and 47 is a pipedream and Collingwood won't accept that - unless they are in awful salary cap trouble. But then the Wellingham offload would have eased the cap squeeze a little. Adding Sherman to the trade is an even bigger pipedream (but can't we all dream a little )

they have has some big negotiations this year with Cloke, Pendles, Goldsack, O'Brien, etc., so I imgaine the cap is pretty tight. On top of that you have Thomas and Swan on big salaries.

Any chance J Grant will be thrown in with a pick?

Re: 2012 Trade rumours and discussion

ST KILDA has made a strong attempt to snare Gold Coast midfielder Josh Caddy today by offering three draft picks for Caddy and young Suns ruckman Tom Hickey.
The Saints offered their compensation pick for the loss of Brendon Goddard (pick 13 overall) along with picks 24 and 34 in this year’s draft, however it is believed the Suns have knocked back the deal.
This is really over the top for Caddy.

There's negativity and there's realism. If we give up pick 21 for Dawes in a straight swap (especially given the circumstances through which we attained that pick and the comparisons that will be drawn) I would understand a backlash against that move.

Why bother upgrading from 27 to 21 and then use the result on Dawes - 27 would have got the job done anyway.

It's probably running at under 50%, but there are examples.

Off the top of my head, current players:
                              Josh P Kennedy
                              Ben McGlynn
                              Jay Schultz
                              Shane Mumford
                              Ivan Maric
                              Sauce Jacobs
                              Luke Ball

Not sure if Tom Harley qualifies as a recently retired example.

That rumour has been floating around since before the grand final. The majority thoughts on this board was stay away.
