Perhaps, but it's not like his family and friends are 10 minutes down the road.

In HR it's said that there are two numbers when it comes to the average salary for a particular role, what people are being paid now and the 10k extra it takes to get them to leave where they are.

Most people are happy where they are but can be lured for the right price. GC, GWS & free agency are showing us that

If Sydney don't want to play ball then we can make a play for Membrey instead and let them deal with Reid's salary.
I think the swans first round pick will be committed to a swans academy kid who is rated a top 10 pick.

        Yep, if other clubs bid.

My take on this is that we should be a player in trades to get the player we want/need, not the next best thing.

Reid is definitely talented, but could he lead the line better than Crameri currently does? How does he fit into how our forward structure is shaping up?

Our biggest mistake in the last 10 years was not going hard after Barry Hall at the end of 2008. If we had done that then we would have won the GF in '09. We froze......we weren't prepared to gamble preferring that we could develop over the inefficiencies that cost in 2008.

Ahh yes, forgot about Isaac Heeney. Thanks for reminding me. Isn't the AFL toying with the idea of changing the compensation system for academy draftees before this coming draft, under pressure from Eddie and co?

Re: Is it time to make a big move?

Realistically we not only need to identify who we want, but also who we are prepared to give up.

It does not need to be someone wanted by the club we trade with, because you can have multiple clubs involved.

Over the years, I have been a fan of Minson, but I would now see him as exendable given the form of Campbell in the VFL.

Who would be interested in Minson. Perhaps Geelong or Richmond. What would they give up. With Mick seemingly giving up on Warnock, would Minson hold any attraction there. He is certainly a better option than Cam Wood.

Jarrad Grant now may be surplus to our requirement but could be of interest to others. Tory Dickson also.

We need to see what is on offer and then look how that might be packaged with our 1st rounder to secure the player we target.

There is a certain sense of irony in pick 5 from 2012 already overtaking Grant.

I'm a massive Jarrad Grant fan, but he is both quality and a point of difference for clubs that have big forwards so has currency - and he's not really spoken of as leadership material.
If something good was available I'd have him on the table.

Re: Is it time to make a big move?

I agree with the sentiment of making a 'big move' but I don't think Reid is of the calibre required.
If we make the move it has to be for 'the one'. The one who will truly lead us out of the wilderness.
The one who will hold down a Key Forward post for 10 years. One who will take big contested marks, Kick straight, contribute consistently. Lead properly. Be a leader. A J. Brown type.
If we can target that player it's worth it.
I just don't see Reid as that player.

It's not a 'bold' move, but i'd be interested to see whether Liam McBean could be tempted away from Richmond for around our 2nd pick. He should debut this week/coming weeks.

Yeah - Grant is the best but he has, for whatever reason, stagnated badly this year. If someone is willing to talk shop then we should listen.

He is the sort of player GWS could be interested in - right age bracket, a serious point of difference to their other forwards as well.

I think Grant's market value would be close to zero.

Many of our supporters seem to have a rose coloured glasses view of Grant, but look at it from another club's point of view- 25 years old, 7 years in the system, 60 games, and you could count the number of good games he's played in the past 4 years on one hand. He'd be seen as steak knives by some, and a world class eker by others.

If we're being honest with ourselves he should be delisted as season's end if we can't find a trade for him.

Gee a year is a long time in footy. This time last year the big Jarryd Grant story was whether he signed a new contract.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

It wasn't long ago that everyone was desperate for Grant to come in after his pre season injury, he gets injured again (no fault of himself) in the Port game, ever since hes been the forgotten man with Redpath the next flavour of the month, did Grant play that badly not to come straight back in or did Stringer, Hunter etc go past him?
