Correct. So, along with Collingwood, we'd be one of two obvious choices. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself here, but were we to land Sam, with Ben entering his 8th year in the system in two years time, would we potentially be a chance to lure a free agent Ben across to top up for a flag run at the end of 2016 or so?

      I would love that.

Wouldn't think so Webby. I'm pretty sure the Pies signed him up to a long term extension earlier in the year. He would have been an unrestricted free agent othetwise.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Yeah that's true. He's due for free agency at the end of 2017 - which will make him 28. If we were to land Sam, had a premiership contending team coming into 2018 (which is about right if we're fair dinkum), topping up with a very good player wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility. Particularly if Collingwood were in no man's land at that point and his younger brother is over at their childhood club... I guess it's all semantics at this point, anyway!

I would wait a year or two when we are closer and then go for a free agent. We will be paying big dollars either way, at least with a free agent we don't have to sacrifice players and/or picks.
Time? Are you serious? Since when are / have we ever been in a position to lure a big key forward in his early 20s? We don't have the luxury of deciding when this happens we make it happen when we can make it happen. I'd say we are desperate for a Patton - very desperate.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

                Yep exactly my point.

Re: Is it time to make a big move?

Why aren't we making the big move? Geelong are looking at getting both Clark and Frawley.

I would like to see us snare a real KPP this trade period. After watching the Grand Final, I was not impressed with Sam Reid, looks like a lost sheep, but is that because of Tippett and Buddy being the focus?

                    What big fish are available?

Clark and Frawley are decent players, but nothing special to make us pay crazy wages for.

Plus maybe we aren't a desirable destination ATM.

Have to think outside the box. We never do.

Trading for a player no one is hyped about. Putting on a trade deal that is too good to refuse.

I wouldn't rule out Carisle yet. Something tells me we are going hard at him.

I guess who's to know if we are not already trying this. There would be 1000's of trade offers that we'll never hear about.

How about pick 5 and Cooney for Carlise and their end of first round pick.
