Re: Is it time to make a big move?
Or perhaps we should go back to chasing guns unhyped guns like Djerrkurra, Callan, and then throwing big offers too good to refuse at stars like Sherman and McDougal. They were brilliant selectionsWestern Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Thanks I'd forgotten about Djerrkurra. I'll never forget Tim Callan though. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: Is it time to make a big move?
I think we should look at someone who has just won back to back premiership medals like a Luke Breust or Isaac Smith. The Hawks seem to fly under the radar when it comes to having their players poached. We need some good ball users more than a key forward IMO especially with Higgins gone now. What's the use of having a gorilla forward if we can't get enough clean ball to him. Hawthorn surely must have some pressure on the salary cap and if they don't they have plenty of gun players who are under paid because they are looking for success rather than coin. Well I say let's throw some money at someone like the above mentioned and see what happens.
With us getting a gorilla forward, someone mentioned Hawkins in an earlier post and how he was a man child and took a number of years to come on as a power forward. Straight away it made me think of Redpath. We might have the player we are searching for already. We may just need to show confidence in him and be patient and build a midfield that can deliver the footy to him. I may be wrong but Geelong had to wait a while for Hawkins to grow into his body so it just got me thinking. They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!

Re: Is it time to make a big move?
Ok. Just throwing it out there.
GCS want Beams. Beams wants Qld. GCS need a higher pick, not more picks.
Pick 5 - Dogs to GCS pick 7 and pick 14 (fringe player if they want)
Pick 7 - Draft Key Defender
Pick 14 & Cooney to Hawthorn for Schoenmakers (and Lowden if wanted) and Pick 18
Pick 18 - Trade to Sydney Sam Reid (or Jaksch)
Pick 25 - Zaine Cordy
Pick 26 (SH comp) - Outside pace
Jones & Tutt - Pick 35 or so - Membrey
Pick 42 - Best Available
Pick 60 - Best Available or PSD.
Upgrade Jong
Sum total:
Tall defender with pick 7 - age 18
Schoenmakers - Tall defender - age 24
Lowden - Ruck - age 23
Sam Reid - Or Jacksch - Tall forward - age 24 (21)
Cordy - Tall defender/flanker - age 18
Outside pace, pacey midfielder at pick 26 - age 18
Membrey - Forward Utility - age 20
Two best available kids
Jong upgraded
So why, Frawley is at Hawks, so Schoenmakers might have a wandering eye. Cooney to Hawks isn't inconceivable. Hawks would love at a top 15 pick to add to Frawley & Cooney. Lowden wants out and would be steak knives. Much like the type of McEvoy trade. Harder to do, but not completely stupid?
GCS want Beams, pick 7 won't get it done. They don't 'need' another late first rounder if the can keep their list together, so from an option of what they lose, my guess is unproven pick 14 is more likely to be sacrificed to get Beams.
Reid would be ok, but late first round is surely the high water mark. Sydney get the cap space and get picks 17 and 18. Surely that gets them interested. (You could interchange Reid for Jacksch if we wanted that)
Membrey essentially gets added to the deal for the best we can get for Jones and Tutt. Say late second rounder should be enough.
Still have a high first rounder, high second rounder, high third rounder and high fourth rounder in the draft.
Lose Higgins, Cooney, Jones, Tutt and shot at Wright/McCartin, but many excellent good talls at 7.
Go after a big name KPF with the kitchen sink next year.
