Re: Other clubs delistings/Want out - 2014
IOf course there are exceptions, but everyone named above is a Victorian. Murphy was from Gippsland, wasn't he (that's Bulldogs territory), whilst Granty is from just up the Calder or Western Highway (take your choice). And they all came to a club which was packed with a nucleus of tightly knit locals.
Grant was embraced by Kolyniuk, Kretiuk, James, Smith, Hunter, Hawkins etc etc. Murphy was mentored by Johnno and Smith and his best mate was Gia. Of course there are exceptions and character matters, but I think the percentages are played by sticking with Vics.
Jones is from Tassie, Hardie was WA (2yrs), Rance WA (2 yrs), Koster SA (3yrs), McGuinness SA (5yrs) etc etc. the only exception I can think of is Steve MacPherson (Tas) who came over at 16 and did his final 2yrs of high school in Footscray and Braybrook an virtually grew up with Wallis, Groenewegen, Kennedy etc.
Character comes into it, but a nucleus of local blokes helps to bind a group, IMO. That's been lost in recent years. I think if you're 50/50 about two players, always go for the local kid. What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

Re: Other clubs delistings/Want out - 2014
Murph is from my home town of Warragul. It was a Hawthorn zone around here back in the day (Gary Ayres, Peter Knights). I could count the number of bulldogs supporters I know around here on one hand, definitely not bulldogs territory.Comment

Re: Other clubs delistings/Want out - 2014
With the restricted and unrestricted free agency period closed as of 5pm Sunday, Former Bomber Leroy Jetta, former Saint Clint Jones, and Port Adelaide utility Tom Logan remain the only players on the free agent list who want to play on but are yet to be contracted for 2015.
Those three players will now have to hope to be picked up during the delisted free agency period, which begins on November 1.

Re: Other clubs delistings/Want out - 2014
He's what 27 next season has average disposal and will take the place of a Wood, JJ, Darley or Biggs. I would be inclined to play all 4 of these players before Hardingham both because they each offer a point of difference (JJ speed, Wood explosiveness and ability to play tall and Biggs and Darley for their disposal). I just don't see the point. But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.Comment

My view is that if we take a delisted player I would prefer to give a opportunity to a key backman if there is any out there and of course if they are rated by the Club too.Comment
