Perhaps clubs think this is one of the deeper drafts for a while? I'm not sure

I'm not sure why Brisbane would let him go, he is their experienced solid player now Brown has gone, he should be their biggest asset in teaching the younger ones.

If he wasn't damaged goods (ie with the ASADA issue) then he is someone we should certainly look at.

If we could get him for a 3rd or 4th rounder then certainly interested. He is 29 so probably only has 2 to 3 good years left in him. But always thought of him as a danger whenever we played them.

Only negative I see is his age, would be another backman retiring at the same time as Murph and Dale.

Yep enough of the washed up keys finishing their careers at the Bulldogs.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

I admire Merritt, but this is smart business by Brisbane. Merritt's age doesn't align with Brisbane's next window. Therefore getting a trade for a good young bloke is the right course. They have their eyes on the ultimate objective. This has Leigh Matthews pragmatism written all over it.

On the flip side, it'd be dumb business by us to try for him. He'd simply help us finish 12th instead of 14th or 9th instead of 11th for a couple of years prior to bowing out and leaving us with a hole. If we are to trade, it has to be for U/24's.

Good points. Probably why we are (apparently) looking at Casboult.

GREATER Western Sydney defender Sam Frost looks set to depart the club after requesting a trade back to Victoria.

The 21-year-old is believed to have informed the Giants of his desire to seek a return to a club in his home state where his family lives.

Frost, the younger brother of Collingwood backman Jack, played 16 games for the Giants this season, for a career tally of 21 over three seasons.
