Just listening to Peter Gordon being interviewed by Peter Donegan on his This is your Sporting Life podcast

It's more than fair to say that the Prez does our club proud

Donegan is an under appreciated talent with his interviews, he does his homework and extracts some additional information that others might miss.

                Worth a listen

Thanks G. I will look forward to having a listen.

I saw PG at Barkers one day not long after we won the flag. A few years earlier when we had won the VFL premiership I told him that he deserved the biggest man hug I could muster. He got it after the AFL premiership!

BTW here is B-Mac's Sporting life. Again it's well worth a listen.

His reasoning for adding a team to Tasmania is interesting listening to me. I didn't think it was possible but PG makes it seem as a missed opportunity.

I've been riding that bandwagon for 20 years plus.

If you really want to understand where the AFL are getting this wrong (and believe me it's frustrating to stand by and watch them *!*!*!*! this up so royally-it's like a car crash where the driver is convinced that he knows best but you can see the obstacle he is about to hit but he can't) then study empires and discover why they fall. Any empire is only as strong as it's borders and frankly it's insane for the AFL to be extending the game to areas where the locals are just not that interested and ignoring areas where the locals just can't get enough. This is where that old saying "sorry but I'm just not that into you" comes into play. The AFL act like a desperado in a nightclub at 3am.

We need to shore up Tasmania and country clubs before we go chasing the pot of gold the AFL lays at the end of the rainbow-but we all know that the pot of gold didn't exist.

Peter Donegan is literally the epitome of why rusted on people in the workforce should get more cred than they do. I've just turned forty and I'm really cognisant of the fact that within five years I'll be so much less employable than I was five years ago. But I only see myself as getting better and more experienced (good experience, mind) over time, Peter Donegan is kind of like this. He has had to cover so much sport and experience to eek out a living in a tough industry and it's made him so good.

While I've been at my last two companies for a combined 33 years I've found it all comes down to attitude and a willingness to embrace change with regards to peoples employability. Age isn't that important.
Depending on the industry you work in I'd say you've got about another 10 years before the job market 'might' start to shrink but in reality it should be another 15 years.
Donegan has done the smart thing and has continually expanded his skills set over the years and remained more than relevant to the industry. There is a lesson there for most of us.

And the industry you work in. I've never been a job snob and it's suited me pretty well because you find pleasure in all sorts of things you may not have considered otherwise.

If you are worried about employment as a middle aged bloke my advice is to get a cert IV in disabilty work. Last Sunday I got paid $42 an hour to go fishing of Altona pier. The shift before that was taking a client to see The Joker (best film I have seen since Stan and Ollie) I thoroughly recommend it as a job.

Re: SEN new line-up / RSN / ABC

Okay time to get a few things off my chest.

A few years back after having a whinge about SEN breakfast team Aza suggested RSN might be an option and after a slow start it won me over and I've been a regular listener for a long while. Thanks Aza.
The combination of Daniel Harford and Adam White and various guests each day was an excellent format. It was called the breakfast club and it really was a club.

Whitey announced that he was leaving the show today and it was a very emotional show with plenty of former presenters phoning in.
I'll really miss him and thats why I have a new avatar for a few days.

I still can't stand that Garry and Tim are still doing the breakfast show. Tim does 3 days a week, Garry 4 but they went on leave around the middle of October and came back for one show today (because of sponsors I suspect) and then announced they were going on leave and would be back in Feb. *!*!*!*!ing part timers at best.

The rest of SEN is pretty good. Whately in the mornings, Dwayne in the afternoon, the two Andrews in the late afternoon doesn't work and we now have Healy and Cornes at 5.30 which has been excellent.

I really think Garry and Tim should nick off if they only want to work 7 or 8 months of the year.

There you go, I feel better.
