Re: Recent CDs bought & your reviews

Any 'The Vines' fans out there should get 'Future Primitive'. Another cracker of an album from one of my all time favourite bands.

My CD of the year so far(and has helped clear my mind after Sunday's torture).
    The curse is dead.

Has anyone listened to new Arctic Monkeys? Very different for them and different to what else is out there currently.

Also picked up new city and colour and an EP by Alex Turner (lead singer Arctic Monkeys) which is very laid back and acoustic sounding.

I have no idea how to describe music or the "sound" but I know what I like!!

New Chili Peppers CD came out yesterday.

I'll get around to listening to it soon.

Hardly egotistical. I interviewed him when I was working as a part-time music journo for the free street gig guide 'forte' magazine in Geelong. Couldn't have spoken to a nicer bloke. He rang the office there in Newtown and spoke for half an hour when it was 3am in the morning in England.

I am indifferent to their music, but I've got nothing but good things to say about him.

Re: Recent CDs bought & your reviews

Well this thread has been neglected recently.

Just acquired two albums by two Australian artists whose ep's I love and am going to see in November.

                The Jezabels - Prisoner

Listened to it in the car at night during a thunderstorm the other night for the first time and it was really good. They have a really unique dark sound with her voice and the instruments they have (piano, guitar and drums). The drumming in particular is fantastic. Moody, really good as an album so far (listening from start to end) with the standouts being the opening track Prisoner and the song "Trycolour" which has an awesome second half. My more commercially minded mate is a big fan of "Endless Summer", which is pretty good as well. Looking forward to this one growing on me more.

                Boy & Bear - Moonfire

On first listen it's a lot more moody and slow than their ep's, which had some really fun songs on them that came home hard. The only song really to stand out on first listen is "feeding line", which I knew prior anyway. Second listen however it's startoing to emerge, and i think it could end up being an alright album.

Anyone else a fan of either of these bands and have listened to these albums?
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Finally found myself across the Swedish Death Metal band Entombed with their 1990 album The Left Hand Path. I've established that this album really changed how death metal was presented and the album is seen as an important component in the evolution of the genre. Looking forward to getting Clandestine next as I've heard really good reviews of this one.

                    Better late than never.

I can remember the visceral thrill of hearing the Nevermind tracks for the first time on RRR and JJJ back in the Summer of 1991. It was such a watershed release for us Gen Xers and it has aged very well. I still get goosebumps whenever I hear the drums kick in on 'Drain You'.

Been giving this a good listen over the past week or so. Like all their previous albums, there are several ripping tracks but also a few songs that are samey. But gee they can finish their albums with an absolute corker, and they've done it again with 'That's Where You're Wrong' - shades of vintage era Echo & the Bunnymen.

You should checkout the soundtrack to the movie Submarine. It is done by Arctic monkeys lead singer Alex Turner. Very cool, or go see the movie every song is pretty much played in the movie.

I'm thinking about the new Wilco album. I was disappointed with their last album, but I've heard this is more a return to their more experimental music.

I recently have been filling out my collection by getting some old stuff that I've long loved but have never owned, being:
                              Tromp Le Monde - Pixies
                              Funhouse - The Stooges
                              The Last Splash- The Breeders.

I pre-ordered this and the new Fountains of Wayne from Amazon, should arrive in a couple of weeks.
