Really interesting song that. I think the lyrics are about domestic violence but I've heard Sumner say it's about Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald but I guess he was taking the piss.
New Order's lyrics are often deliberately ambiguous I think. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: What song always puts you in a good mood?
Like I say the lyrics are deliberately ambiguous, most of Sumner's are.
On one reading it could be about a guy killing his wife and marrying another woman later down the track but the next time you read it you might think it's about the legend that JFK hired Lee Harvey Oswald to kill Jackie so he could carry on his affair with Marilyn Monroe and then Bobby Kennedy organised for Jack Ruby to kill Oswald before he could spill the beans. Sumner is a talented lyricist/story teller. He can get you to believe all sorts of stuffThey say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Recently, the local cinema was showing the Talking Heads live concert movie Stop Making Sense. I'd seen it before, but to see it on the big screen was phenomenal. Anyway, this is my favourite performance from it, just an absolute killer performance showcasing unbelievable musicianship and a level of energy that is undeniable. Not lyrically the happiest song, but musically, try not to dance to this MFer.

The music universe just threw me ‘Breathe’ by The Prodigy For the first time in a very long time.
I feel better. I imagine Sam Power just in trade rooms with this on his ear pods, cranked right up, with a weird look on his face like Christian Bale in The Big Short.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

The song Love At First Sight by Kylie Minogue always used to cheer me up but I don't think it works anymore. Actually I never listen to it anymore so I'm not sure.
Also, Wound by The Smashing Pumpkins used to pick me up.
I don't have any good reasons for Why.😀 1Comment

I defy anyone to listen to "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen and not feel like tapping their feet.
It always makes me think of good times, but since Shaun of the Dead, it also reminds me of the ridiculous scene in the Winchester, so it's a two pronged attack.
There are two untouchables in my life: Freddie Mercury and Chris Grant. Those two can do no wrong in my eyes.
As a hetero male, I'm not ashamed to admit I still miss Freddie.
I know this is random, but I'm interested to hear others pick me up tracks.More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

Not a foot tapper but on thread Dig a Pony by The Beatles is always in my "music make me feel good" kit bag.
I'm always fascinated by their chord progressions and the B m to G 7 change in the verse ("you can celebrate anything you want" part) makes me happy every damn time.
The walking guitar parts are also amazingly fun to play.
I think it's about Heroin (pony = horse) and I know JL didn't really like it but maybe more about that period.
