    Indeed.

This is a particular style of house music that's close to my heart, circa 2002-2003, this was the sound that really made me shake. Recording isn't great, but the track is.

Man, tunes used to be so quick in the olden days.

Re: What song always puts you in a good mood?

Sorry if I already posted this tune.

I'd first heard it on CD, but was treated to it in the bush at Rainbow Serpent 2011 (I think it was DJ Koze) and it's the most lovely deep and dark masterclass in tech-house I've heard.

As nasty as it is, it covers all the ranges.

If you have decent sound/ headphones you'll appreciate it.

Wow, thanks for posting that. Back circa 2002-2003 my early 20's brain would not have contemplated even listening to that.

When the mainstream and the underground/independent combine very rarely does the outcome sit well with underground/independent side.

            Agreed on this point.

Did you have older siblings? What I listened to was massively influenced by my brother who went over to the UK when I was 20 for about a year and came back with heaps of new electronic music. It started off as trance, then quickly onto deeper and darker house/ progressive/ breakbeat sounds and techno. I always liked a wide range of tunes, and liked electronic music as it was, but if he didn't go overseas I don't reckon I'd have caught onto it nearly as much.

And yes, of course I’ve listened. I very much like the single you posted. The album is a very solid Spoon effort. Just unable to make a bad record.

I remember a time when the most important thing about any band was to like their early stuff and then get more and more disappointed with each new release.

Ive been rewatching the TV show Spaced just lately and I'd forgotten what a cracking soundtrack it had. It introduced me to lots of bands I hadn't heard before, especially some of the Japanese artists like Cornelius

They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I completely missed Spoon. Literally have nobody in my life outside of you two and Sedat who have mentioned them (and you guys aren't really just in my life, you're everything to me). I've read their profile/ story on Wikipedia but that's pretty dry. What/ who are they like? Are they prominent?

Did you see the Brit music doco Live Forever in the early 2000's? Jarvis played a bit part in it but had some classic one liners. The doco mainly focused on Blur, Oasis and Tony Blair....

I saw Jarvis solo at the Forum at is was an epic show and he was very funny.

One of my favourite bands is Soulwax they were indie but then they turned to electronic music.

Have you heard of Soulwax (aka Dewale brothers, toomanyDJs, the flying dewale brothers, The f**cking Dewale brothers) https://www.discogs.com/artist/34128-Soulwax

Anyways my point is that Soulwax have remixed a Pulp song - so thats the common link.
Hey Aza, do you have a link to this doco?

This is a pretty cool deep house/ progressive track from about eight years ago. Brilliantly produced.

No I was a pretentious little twat long before the Sub Pop thing. I didn't even like Pearl Jam, I was far more into Mudhoney ('s earlier stuff. Didn't really like them when they became popular)

For me it went right back to the little band movement in the late '70s in Melbourne.

That's ok, I've missed nearly all electronic music from the beginning of time to now.

Spoon are loose swagger while simultaneously being tight AF, they're awkward cool, brimming self-confidence without an excess of ego. Professional competence in the best possible way. I'd say stylistically that they have been made up in parts of the lay back rhythmic component of AC/DC, early 2000's indie, Eno sonic experimentalism and some Roxy Music cool. Been around for a long time but have managed to evolve across albums without ever becoming too stale, probably partly to do of the consistent churn of members outside of singer / guitarist / band focus Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno (ha!).
Peak period for most fans would be considered the 3 album period from Kill The Moonlight to Gimme Fiction to Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, but they've been remarkably consistent.
They're fairly well respected elders in the indie music scene these days (if it still exists) and locally can sell out a Croxton / Forum type venue under normal circumstances. Probably a twilight on a festival size band. And you've likely heard one of their songs without realising it. The Way We Get By, I Turn My Camera On and The Underdog have all been songs used in other wider pop cultural contexts.
