Re: What are you watching at the moment

Still ploughing through Seinfeld, right in the middle of season 4.

Just finished the episode 'The Cheever Letters' and it's one of the funniest bits of TV I have ever seen. The scene with Jerry and George in the diner when Jerry is describing his dirty talk fiasco, my god I was gasping!

    Unbelievable show.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

I love Nicola Walker, and was put off at first but you do get used to it and she's so good it kind of works.

I'd prefer they didn't do it, but I was the same as you and persevered.

How about George’s reaction?! ‘That’s not offensive, abnormal sure, but not offensive!’

The whole episode was perfection. “Have you read any of Cheever?”

That's exactly what the fourth wall is. It's what separates the performer and the watcher. sometimes the performer ignores the convention and addresses the audience directly. The most famous example are Rosencratz and Guildenstein wandering about in Hamlet and commenting on what's going on in the play. Usually it's cringeworthy but sometimes it's terrific. In Annika (and Hamlet!) it's terrific.

              Yep. Walker does it well.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I bought a book on the Plantagenets at Woodend for 7 bucks on the weekend TD. I'll be talking all things 1066 + with you soon.

I've been to Battle. It's awesome. The actual battle of Hastings town is called Battle.

Why did Harold go North. Damn my heirs from Norway!

Is that the one by Dan Jones? If so it's a cracking read. I've read it twice over the lockdown.

Harold had to go North to fight Hadrada's Viking army who had landed with Harold's brother Tostig (the brothers had a falling out.) Harold and his Housecarls pretty much ran to York picking up the fyrd (militia) on the way and caught up with the Vikings just outside of York at Stamford Bridge after getting there in 3 days. It was one of the greatest Anglo Saxon military wins but just as they were celebrating their victory they found out that the wind had changed down south and William had landed at Pevensey. So they had to turn around and run back again!

Sensational. Some really good anecdotes. I'd sit down and realise I'd read 75 pages before I looked up.

I love English history. Have been all over, wife was born in Shotley Bridge in the North East.

If anyone gets a chance go to Eden Camp in Yorkshire.

Step back in time and experience World War 2 at Eden Camp Modern History Museum in North Yorkshire, all within the grounds of an original POW Camp.

Have done a tour of Normandy it was the best thing I've ever done.

The Michael Wittman story and visiting his grave stuck with me.

Along with the first soldier to die on D-Day I think his name was Brotheridge...it was in trying to take Pegasus bridge.

Did you know that the Allies lost more troops in the training In Scotland and the north of England for Dday than they lost in the actual landing? The training was pretty rough though. Live ammo, the lot.

My favourite story from WWII in Europe is operation Mincemeat. The other great story is about a soldier called Mad Jack Churchill, if you don't know him take the time to google him, he's a hell of a yarn.

Just finished horror/thriller tv show “Midnight Mass” by director Mike Flanagan (doctor sleep, Haunting of Hill house, haunting of bly manor, hush). Great suspense, dialogue and character development. Netflix series. 7 episodes. If you love Stephen King, check it out.
I will never see #16 the same!!
