Re: What are you doing at the moment?

Decided to take a stroll down to Fed square from home today along the Yarra and have lunch. AFL had some Aus Kick activities going and none other than The Bont looking after kids. Also Rory Sloane as well, but not many kids or people asking for his autograph. The Bont of course had a sore hand.

      That's a nice coincidence.

It's a big day for the Bont when you think about it. Depending on whether they travelled back last night or today, it's rehab, recovery and an appearance to fit in around your normal activities (and sportspeople are real creatures of habit, like little babies they thrive on routine) .

I wonder if this counts as one of his days off?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

A few years ago I came across a program called MAME which emulates old arcade games for PC's. One thing led to another and I built an arcade machine for my brother in law for Christmas. He was blown away, but I didn't have the heart to tell him he was just the test case - I made all the mistakes and learnt all the lessons making his. That being said, it still turned out pretty well.

So at the moment, I'm in the process of figuring out a program called HyperSpin that works as a frontend, or a shiny link up process for the clunky MAME program, but geez it's hard.

I know very little about computers and programming, and there's all sorts of programming stuff required to run this thing. It's driving me mad.

Anyway, end rant I guess. What's your hobby? What's chewing up your free time?
Since we're back in lockdown I thought I'd dredge this thread back up with an update - 7 years in the making!

I ended up building a second machine for my mate's 40th but decided I wasn't going to build another one. It was too much work and time consuming, but I still wanted one for myself.

I ended up buying one that some guy had on Facebook and just picked it up recently. When I went to pick it up he had it up and running and aside from being pretty grotty it was working fine.

Of course when I got it home the power supply unit on the PC blew so I ended up having to use a PC I had and *!*!*!*!ing around with the software again (which was actually the worst bit).

Anyway, today I finally finished it and have been playing with my kids all day. I'll attach some pics - still needs a proper clean but you get the idea. I don't even know why I'm posting this - maybe I needed some catharsis from finally closing the circle .

Oh and if anyone is curious the best games are Outfoxies, NBA Jam and Street Fighter 2. If anyone has any other suggestions I'm happy to try them.

Anyway, tell me what your lockdown projects are. What are you getting done?

I actually have investigated this a bit - there's a bit of movement but nothing worth trying to make it a money making venture as a side gig.

There's literally thousands of games to play, it's overwhelming to search through them all. My machine has about 50 but I'm always interested in checking out recommendations. I'll see if I can find a Warriors related one.

MAME is the emulator, yes. HyperSpin makes it purdy to look at.

                    Madness.

Thanks for the kind words guys, don't give me too much credit I didn't build it (although now that I'm thinking about it I had to do some rewiring on it today too grrr).

During the school holidays I seized many, many days down at Footscray Bowl playing Orbit.

Or is that the "buyer beware" one?
