I know Sydney need points for acedemy but that deal is still bizarre.

Talking to a mate, we're convinced Sydney and Essendon used the deal as pretense for a "handshake agreement" to not bid on Mills at 4 or 5. If he gets by the Dees he could not be bid on until as late as pick 9.

2 very good players available so they did very well. I don't like this system at all though.

Edit: Shouldn't say very well, did what they had to.

They have been royally screwed by the reduction and ultimate removal of COLA - they still have massive salary cap issues hence why decent fringe players like Bird on mid range coin continue to get off-loaded every season.

Their driver must've been to offload Bird as they've only gained a net +16 benefit in points by offloading 14 for 23 and 44. I can only assume that Bird was contracted and not in a position to be delisted by them.

Port Adelaide have reportedly rejected Richmond's offer of Pick 12 for Matthew Lobbe.

Oh? I thought they got 23 and 24.

Gotta give credit to Saints. They held their ground and got something back in return. No way Carslisle was worth pick 5 alone. Won't give credit to Bombres they can go and get .......

VC and 3 years to run on his contract, I can understand Port wanting to play hardball.
I can't see us giving up pick 11 so looks like we've shut up shop and will head to the draft, perhaps give away Talia as a token trade to Sydney as a payback for Biggs last year

Doesn't seem like we opened shop Mofra.

Further to the Melbourne/GC exchange of draft picks deal, GC now has 5 picks inside for first 2 rounds of next year's draft. For a supposedly hot draft they now have some serious currency in next year's trade negotiations.

Western Bulldogs make play for Port Adelaide ruckman Matthew Lobbe

THE Western Bulldogs have made an 11th hour bid for Port Adelaide ruckman Matthew Lobbe

The Herald Sun can reveal the Bulldogs contacted Port Adelaide and Lobbe’s management about an offer late Tuesday.

But it is feared the proposal will get knocked on the head with time running out before Thursday’s 2pm deadline.

Despite the late attempt to secure a much-needed lead ruckman the Bulldogs this morning believed it was unlikely to get across the line.

Lobbe is currently on holiday in Vietnam making negotiations more difficult.

Some officials at Port Adelaide were open to exploring an exchange that could have sent Lobbe to the Whitten Oval for a first-round pick this year or next.

It's good that we are having a ping at Lobbe and it's something a few of us suggested early in the trade period.
If Port have knocked back pick 12 from Richmond I'm not sure our pick 11 will get it done.
