A bit of confusion with this trade. Some outlets are reporting that Sydney get 24 and 25 (not 44), and that St Kilda are getting 14 and 44 (as well as Carlisle). The above looks too inequitable for Sydney and too beneficial for Essendon.

From AFL website:

In the deal: - Essendon receives Bird and pick No.5, gives up Carlisle and pick No.44, and exchanges pick No.23 for pick No.24;
- St Kilda receives Carlisle and pick No.14 and gives up pick No.5 and pick No.24;
- Sydney Swans receive picks No.23 and pick No.44, and gives up pick No.14 and Bird.


The combined points from those picks (1177 points) mean the Swans will take more points to the draft to use on their academy prospect Callum Mills and potential father-son selection Josh Dunkley than they would have if they had hung on to selection No.14 (1161 points).

Wow, super trading by Dodoro. He has copped a lot of justifiable shit over the years but 4 picks in the top 25 (plus Bird) is a great outcome for Essendon.

Also means we will be getting bugger-all for Talia - possibly an upgrade from pick 51 to 44. I can't see their newly acquired pick 23 being part of any discussions as they need the points for the academy players. Would love to see us push for an upgrade from pick 30 to 23 but I'm not confident this will happen.

If Melbourne remain cellar dwellers in 2016 (highly likely), GC could win this trade handsomely - they have traded into a strong draft in 2016 with 2 potential top 5 picks (their own 1st rounder and now Melbourne's) and have stayed in the top 10 in this year's draft with pick 6.

GCS must be thinking next years pick 10 is better? Then it's a 14 pick upgrade in the second for 3 pick upgrade to Melbourne in the first. Parish/Curnow must be pooping himself as the next cursed top Demons pick bearing in mind Watts, Tompas and Petracca doing his knee.
