      1. For compensation for Talia.
Maybe we should be given 'draft points' that we can use to trade in the future with the academy clubs, or use to bid on a father son player.

Maybe based on the original pick we used for him (39), at least it's a starting point.

I think that would work without penalising other clubs by giving us a pick in the draft.

We've been hit once by the fact he gave the opposition inside info before a final.
Hit twice by the fact we're going to lose a senior player with perhaps little or no compensation.
And hit 3 times because our hands have been tied during the very important trade week.
      I think we deserve compensation.

      2. to get up in the draft, bundle some of our picks together to nudge higher up in the draft. Other clubs seem to have done it well

I would have considered Honeychurch and Hrovat for the right deal. I like both, but they have limitations that we can cover and perhaps could have used to our advantage this trade period.

I would like to thank all the contributors on WOOF over the trade period in the threads that have covered the comings and going of players.

It been really nice to get the low down and avoid a lot of the bull dust that happens at this time of year.

WOOF has been my one stop shop.

          Thanks again.

Just work out some kind of equation to estimate roughly how many draft points we lost by not being able to trade him.

            It's something.
To do that we would have needed to acquire some additional 2nd round currency. We did suggest something along that line here on WOOF at the start of the trade period.

Yes, it's the only way to support drafting the best players and then were there is an excess of similar types try and turn that into something that covers the current positional needs.

                GVGjr, I've edited my post.

I hadn't explained myself clearly. I was suggesting the AFL compensate us with draft points for the loss of Talia and the fact their investigation took so long it ruined our trade period.

We can use these draft points to trade with the academy clubs or bid on a father son, but we don't get an actual pick in the draft for him, which would disadvantage other clubs. We could base the points on the original pick we used (39). At least it's a starting point.

We've been hit once by the fact he gave the opposition inside info before a final which we then narrowly lost.
Hit twice by the fact we're going to lose a senior player with perhaps little or no compensation.
And hit 3 times because our hands have been tied during the very important trade week which is the AFL's fault.
                I think we deserve compensation.

Historically we have been reluctant to trade talent whilst it has currency (Everitt and Hill spring to mind) and waited a year too long. Sincerely hope that doesn't happen with Hrovat or Honeychurch.

As you said, with quite a few similar players being drafted over the last few years, the reality is one or two would need to be traded out - perhaps a little under 'market value' - but with a view to addressing list needs. Whilst both Honey and Hrovat are solid players, they can be easily replaced in any draft.

Sometimes it's just not worth doing the deal, but I hope it's because what was offered wasn't reasonable and not because we were stubborn.

Maybe with next years draft, which is supposed to be stronger,we are looking ahead to do something similar but not till next year.

We were more than loud enough last year. If nothing further eventuates today, I'm still very happy with the majority of our list profile - we aren't without holes but we do have some solid picks to address these in the draft.

Imagine the shit-fight over Tom Boyd in this trade period if we didn't surprise everyone last year. St Kilda and Carlton were already all over him like a cheap suit, and no doubt Freo would have thrown the kitchen sink to land a young key forward.
