That's a pretty good plan to be honest. Both could easily hit the wall next year.

I haven't seen him for a while but I don't mind the interest in Robertson. For as good as our mids look on paper, you could argue the dynamic still isn't good enough defensively. He would help, but it is a little concerning he has played so few games in recent years. I get Brisbane's list is stacked, but good players generally find a way.

How do watchers compare Robertson v Berry? Can the former get to Berry's level?

I'm not too angry at a guy struggling to move past Neale, Dunkley, Clug, Berry, Ashcroft's for a midfield spot. And then the best half forwards in the comp...

I think he has the tools to come in and play 23 games next year.

Better than Garcia, Sanders. No guarantees on Libba, Treloar, Harmes (or even Matt Kennedy tbh, who put in a career year). Probably doesn't have the speed for the role we ask McNeil and VDM to play but he's better than them too.

Robertson is decent depth at worst, really like Budarick as a small swingman but where is the key defender...

We're clearly trying for a KPD. We're two weeks away from trade week.

If it ends and we haven't added anyone, I'll share the frustration. Right now, we're doing okay.

The domino's don't all fall at the same time. We will be linked with a few players over the next few days and as you say when trade week starts the priorities will start to become clearer.

Each year we just play moneyball and to our credit we do get the best we can out of them. They are better teams cast offs and are no longer wanted usually for a reason. We're continuously diluting our list with these types of players and I'm not sure if it helps or is prolonging a big fall. Not that we have much choice anyway, the 2 grand finalists will get the cream of the crop.

Last year we were into the versatile O'Halloran and maybe that had something to do with him being a great citizen and good leader as much as it was about him being a decent footballer.
Is Robertson a bit like XOH?

I think given we're trying to rebuild on the fly a finals birth and win should be next year's goal, consolidation and a preliminary final the year after and a genuine crack after that is most realistic.

Unless we can jag Wilkie or someone of his quality to hold down the defence - which is a long shot, then I don't see any value in recruiting Jed Bews or anyone with such limited shelf life who isn't an absolute game changer.

It'd be highly surprising if we re-signed Beveridge thinking we were genuine contenders given our list profile, JUH's situation and Liam Jones's situation.........or maybe the power brokers internally know more about our recruiting prospects than I do..........

With all due respect we showed at times this year that we are at the very least close.

Our aim next year and every year should be a flag.

We need to shed this view of being a bit player

Sure we need to improve but that aim should be to improve and win the thing

Our forward talls are the best in the league and our mids are strong

Yes we need to defend better, but let's find a way to do it and win the thing

Very close in the home and away season though. Finals different beast and out lack of big MCG games kills us imo. Also tall forwards are great but did you seem them during finals, near on useless most of the time, smalls seem to be way more valuable and ours are not great. Defence as you mentioned was way off he pace last year. it's really been my worry for the past couple seasons is we seem to be built the opposite to what finals require right now with a poor defence, low pressure rating and medium/small forwards that are not very consistent. Interesting pre season to see if we pivot our game style or back it in with hopefully improved personal.

I know it's not all about stats but at which point has Robertson ever been more productive than Sanders (I don't rate Garcia so I won't compare)?
