I raised a possible trade a while back to go hard as hell to get Barrass, he would be the perfect player for us with his experience and age, but apparently he's very settled in WA with his family, and the Swans made a huge play last year, but he would be perfect and absolutely chips all in.

You would imagine we would have to use either Baz or Timmy as part of some kind of swap/3 way deal scenario as we don't have the early picks required.

Rather keep Buss, ruck Lobb and trade Tim. Tim being an RFA so can force a trade if necessary or use the (current) Pick 9 in a trade.

I'd imagine we're exploring this potentially knowing Buss is likely on his way West at the end of year. Club seeing it as a way to possible shake Barrass out as part of a trade.

          Collingwood - Barrass
          WCE - Busslinger
          Dogs - steak knives

Say we get Pick 9 for Tim as compo. Offer up Pick 9 for Barass & Pick 23 (& maybe some salary).

Interesting side note. Collingwood chasing Barass. I don’t think there’s any chance they can get Baz AND Barass. Maybe Baz is down to Hawks & Geelong. If it’s Hawks, and they offer up Pick 7. That could be used to chase Barass.

                Barrass is turning 29.

                Why do we want him?

Because Jones is older than Happy Days, Keath is done and the cupboard is bare.

Liam Jones (so far easily our best defender) was 31 when we gave him a three year deal…

While player for player swaps are very rare I doubt we would consider it straight up.
Barrass is an okay player but would be more of a Keath replacement I would have thought.

                          This is true.

Which a lot of people were very concerned about but I guess he's proven his value now.
Perhaps having that time off has helped him.

                              Concerned with good reason!

We still have 18 months to go but I am not sure anyone can have regrets with his recruitment.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Still need very good players in an evolution. Especially a KPD with our list. If we can make this a short, sharp mini rebuild/refresh/evolution and can be contending while Barass is still a very, very good defender flanked by hopefully Buss & JOD, with Naughton, Darcy & Marra (& Cody) up the other end and hopefully some effective mids including Bont still going, then it’s a really aggressive move. With West & Cooney in a couple of years there’s still young talent coming in plus I’d seriously consider trading F1 the next two trade periods to forward in more talent (points only for West/Cooney anyway) then we can bring in top talent, keep giving the recruiters laters opportunities like Gags & Freijah and start to flesh out the list. By the end of next year there’s probably no Keath, Jones and Gardner isn’t the future either. Khamis isn’t a KPD and Croft is too raw to build a defence around. So another kid won’t help if we turn things around quickly. But Barass could.
