The pressure is building. Little looks likely to cut his losses and cop loss of points and the suspension of Hird.
The unpredictable factor is Hird, all signs point to him not caring in the slightest what happens to the club so long as he gets himself off the hook. He may well refuse to accept the gift of a deal and I doubt there's anyone at that club with the character to stand up to him.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Re: AFL targets Essendon Royalty
Important to note that these potential sanctions are based on governance, not doping. And draft penalties for 2 years are very much in play. When ASADA release their final report, there will be carnage on that playing list.
Just as an aside, Joe Daniher's parents were at the briefing a couple of nights ago. Why would they need to be there? Unless of course the club decided last year to jab up a 17yo kid who wasn't even on their list yet (but very much at the club and training). I'd have thought one of the scribes might make an enquiry or two about this unusual occurrance."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Did anyone see this strange tweet early this morning. He kind of retracted it afterwards to a few people but I bristled when I read it.
Grant Thomas @Thomo_Grant
I'm sure Peter Gordon is keen to protect AFL handout to Doggies. Just appointed President & he is the mouthpiece? Won 10% "sling" from AFL.
with eight children, maybe it is possible to f%^& yourself stupid.
Why would this imbecile think his opinion is relevant, he is an oxygen thief.
I hope when all is done and dusted Peter flexes some muscle and fixes his little red wagon. It's better to die on our feet than live on our knees.Comment

Hopefully it is just the parents trying to get a feel for what has happened at the club and to why their sons would be feeling overawed.

Re: AFL targets Essendon Royalty
I hope so too. I guess the best way to find out is whether Goddard's or Kommer's parents were also there. It's certainly something worth making a few enquiries about if I was a scribe - if it ever eventuated that young Joe was a part of this doping program, that would become the single biggest issue in all of this."Look at me mate. Re: AFL targets Essendon Royalty
It's unacceptable compromise if what is being reported in the media now are the only sanctions Essendon receive. Terrible indictment on the game. I hope Peter Gordon and the other Presidents protest this in the strongest possible manner.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: AFL targets Essendon Royalty
I find the lack of distinction between what WADA and ASADA have to play in this, versus the AFL pretty disturbing.
Suppose there's probably a danger of litigation against media outlets that actually have the balls to outline the issue goes beyond the AFL's fight with the EFC club acting as a barrier to highlighting the fact there's a lot more to play out in this.
Some of it has to do with the 24 hour news cycle, with the hot topic being EFC's terrible governance and the impending sanctions from the AFL. Another part has the media outlets not wanting to open the can of worms too early if at all.
What a mess.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: AFL targets Essendon Royalty
I hope there is not a highly compromised deal the AFL and Essendon being worked where it's just Hird falling on his sword and the club copping a fine. The Presidents for every other club should not accept this.
At the absolute minimum I think the following is what I could live with as being very firm but very fair.
- Hird stood down from the AFL for 3 years. This includes all media related jobs. He's done.
- The club cannot participate in the first 2 rounds National Draft for 2 years. 2013 and 2014.
- A salary cap reduction of $250,000 for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
- All players become free agents allowing them to strike better deals if they don't want to play for the club again.
I don't necessarily think the players should be found not guilty but to protect the AFL and Essendon from ongoing litigation I think the AFL should offer the players immunity from the supplements regime and a one off Free Agency status so that they can continue their career's elsewhere if they so desire.
This is however, conditional on protecting the better interests of the game long term. No further litigation.
If any of the other main players in this are found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute then they get a 6 months holiday from the club.
This is what I see as the upside of these sanctions.
- The public face of the scandal is out of football for 3 years.
- The club is penalized strongly over a few seasons which is what the football community wants.
- The players are not victims as they have an opportunity to look elsewhere to play football. ALPHA should be satisfied.
- The AFL is seen as a strong arbitrator capable of making the hard decisions on behalf on the competition.
We simply can't have the AFL putting together a highly compromised deal that basically slaps Essendon on the wrist for what is a very serious lack of governance regarding the players welfare.
After the Melbourne tanking debacle they can't afford to sweep a lot of this under the carpet again.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Interesting to say the least. Public admission of use and dosages of Thymosin Beta-4. Players are screwed.Comment
