Yeah agree strongly. I think Essendon should hurt for years after this. Not because I hate Essendon or anything but they need to really hurt over the or they just won't learn their lesson.

The talk of rehiring Hird as soon as his suspension is up is proof of this.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

This alone should make existing players at Essendon re-examine their tenure and any free agents at another clubs think twice before selecting Essendon.

It's the most polarising decision they could have made. Essendon players who believe Hird did nothing wrong and it's all a big misunderstanding and media beat-up are going to commit 100% to the club, but those with any doubts are going to commit 100% to finding a new home.

Polarising or not, name one other instance in or out of sport (other than a corrupt dictatorship) where a person has overseen an illegal program within an organisation, plea bargained to reduce their sanction and been re-employed after?

          It just doesn't happen!

Whats crazy is Essendon members want him to come back. I don't care who you are if that was our club I wouldn't want him anywhere near our players again. Hird is the goose that lays the golden egg & worth far too much money to Essendon for them to show him the door.

If James Hird told them to change the name of Windy Hill to 'Hirdstown", to all to dye their hair blonde, wear white skivvies and line up for poisoned cordial, they'd probably do it.

It's a sick obsession down there.

The club is fined 2 million bucks, gets kicked out of the good end of the draft for 2 years, gets kicked out of the finals, and Hird gets banned for a year.
He then gets a contract extension????

              He should be in jail.

I got a laugh out of that.

Mmm a bit like Eddie and Bucks who can't do anything wrong even when the players are showing signs of unrest apparently

Surely you cannot be comparing the two scenerios? From my take on the Collingwood thing they are having discpline issues with a few players, not club sanctioned programs that are risking the health of the players.

Doc Reid has had all AFL charges against him dropped.

I'm dumbfounded - despite reportedly being 'marginalised' in this fiasco, how does the doctor of the club get off?

He shouldn't have allowed himself to become such a periphery figure - he should be facing serious AFL charges, and to get off completely is staggering.

The AFL are going to let ASADA do the legal fighting.

Doc Reid is far from "in the clear"

I support you, there's a clear distinction there and a logical issue. To say A is like B is not to say so in all regards, only the relevant similarities. Also it may well be that A is incredibly unlike B in most regards yet still like it in the relevant way.

                                Wowsers.

It either stinks of a set up for Hird to take the fall, or stinks of a set up to get him off as lightly as possible.

Interesting to see how this one plays out. Could be career defining (or ending) for a few people.

If Paul Little and Mike Fitzpatrick are deemed to have been colluding via a third party, then the game is seriously in jeopardy of falling into disrepute.
